A 56-Module Wavegarden Cove Is Being Planned for Auckland, New Zealand

If wave pools were an arms race, Wavegarden would be leading the charge. With 8 Wavegarden pools in operation, 3 opening in 2025, and at least 40 more in various stages of planning and permitting across nearly every continent, the Wavegarden technology obviously works.

The most recent project to license it? The Auckland Surf Park.

While it's still in the early planning phases, The Auckland Surf Park is the latest project from Aventuur, the wave pool development company behind the world's largest Wavegarden Cove, which is currently up and running in South Korea.

According to the presser , "The Auckland Surf Park will create a world-class, sustainable surf park community in Dairy Flat, providing quality sport, recreation, hospitality, and tourism amenities that celebrate Aotearoa, its surfing heritage and culture, and the area’s rural character.

"At the heart of the community is a 56-module Wavegarden “Cove” lagoon, offering unparalleled surfing and wellbeing experiences for everyone in a safe, controlled environment. The surf park will also feature high-performance sports and leisure facilities, eco-cabins and lodging accommodation, a farm-to-table restaurant and garden, and public outdoor amenities including walking and cycling trails."

The presser goes on to mention a few wave pool firsts at The Auckland Surf Park, including the use of a solar farm to warm the pool year round, as well as "utilizing ‘zero embedded carbon’ concrete for structures, harvesting rainwater from community buildings, composting organic waste on site, eliminating single use plastics, procuring local materials and products wherever possible, regenerating existing streams on the property, and naturescaping outdoor areas using only endemic local species."

If all goes well, you'll be able to shred Raglan in the morning and then hit The Auckland Surf Park in the afternoon starting in 2027.
