HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A man will find out his fate in Henrico County’s Circuit Court Friday morning in connection to a shooting incident which took the life of a 16-year-old and left a man hurt.
Trevon Chappell, one of three suspects, was 18-years-old when he was arrested and charged with the incident that took place at the White Oak Shopping Center on July 3, 2021.
According to online court records, Chappell faces sentencing for two charges — involuntary manslaughter and unlawfully shooting into an occupied building.
Court records show he had previously been charged with non-capital felony murder, maliciously discharging a firearm into an occupied building and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
The first two charges were amended and the third was dropped.
Henrico Police received the call of a reported shooting at around 5:30. They arrived to a “chaotic scene” at the NOLA by Nisha store of the shopping center and found that the 16-year-old — identified as Jamirah by her aunt to 8News crews — had died from her injuries. Another man who was shot was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The two other suspects charged in connection to this shooting incident are Jihad Arlik Ruffin and a juvenile male.
The juvenile was charged with shooting into an occupied building, felony murder, possession of a firearm while under the age of 18 and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Ruffin faced sentencing in December of 2023 and was found guilty of second-degree murder, maliciously discharging a firearm into an occupied building and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Chappell’s sentencing hearing is at 11 a.m.
