The Foothills North Junior Legion team exploded for 18 runs in just four innings against Stokes County.

Foothills Post 123 scored double-digit runs for the third time in seven days to defeat Post 290 18-6 on June 24. This included an 8-run first inning and a 10-run third inning.

The 24 runs in Monday’s game, held at North Surry High School, nearly surpassed the 27 combined runs scored across the teams’ first two meetings; Stokes defeated North 7-3 on June 12, then also won the rematch on June 20 9-8.

The win was North’s fourth in its past five games.

Nick Burnett and Caleb Gammons each hammered two hits for North, accounting for half of the team’s eight total hits. Four Foothills players each recorded one hit: David Schuyler, Kyler Simmons, Zamarri Sweatman and Ashton Seal.

Post 123 also benefited from seven bases on balls, five hit by pitches and four Stokes fielding errors.

Burnett was one of four North players to record multiple RBIs. He led the team with four while Sweatman added three, and Kinley Stanley and Garrett Senter each had two. Burnett and Sweatman each had big doubles in the third inning, with Burnett’s scoring three runs and Sweatman’s scoring two.

Five Post 123 players had one RBI each: Schuyler, Gammons, Simmons, Brodie Robertson and Jonah Adams.

Stokes out-hit Foothills 9-8, but North pitcher’s Adams and Seal only gave up one base on balls and no hit by pitches. Stokes was led by Grady Hall with two hits, followed by seven players with one hit each: Christopher Bennett, Cameryn Phipps, Spencer Boles, Nick Turner, Bentley Joyce, Cayden Covel and Reid Tilley.

Adams earned the win on the mound for North by throwing two strikeouts, one base on balls, and allowed four runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings pitched. Seal tossed the final 1 2/3 innings, during which time he recorded two strikeouts and allowed two runs on five hits.
