Novak Djokovic winning Wimbledon will keep 'the streak' alive

Since 2003, one of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic has captured at least one major in every calendar. With Federer retired and Nadal nearing the end of his career, the pressure has been on Djokovic to keep "the streak" alive on behalf of the Big 3.

However, the Serb failed to win the Australian Open this year and pulled out of his Roland Garros quarterfinal match with a knee injury , threatening his participation at the Wimbledon and US Open.

The streak doesn't have to end just yet.

Djokovic confirmed his participation in the 2024 Wimbledon after playing a 40-minute practice tie with World No. 1 Jannik Sinner on Thursday. According to The Athletic, Djokovic "appeared to be moving fine" during the practice match and "didn't appear to be in discomfort" whatsoever.

It was later revealed that Djokovic will start his pursuit of major No. 25 with a first-round match against Czechia's Vit Kopriva on Monday. As per the draw , the eight-time Wimbledon winner could face tough challengers such as Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the third round, Danis prodigy Holger Rune in the fourth, and potentially Alexander Zverev in the semi-final.

The huge positive for the second-seeded Djokovic is that Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz — the two men chasing his throne — are in the same draw . As such, the Serb will have to beat only one of the two rising stars to capture his ninth Wimbledon title and keep "the streak" alive.

The Big 3's generation-defining streak began when Federer captured the 2003 Wimbledon title. If Djokovic fails to win one of the next two majors, the post-Big 3 era will be officially underway.
