The X Games Real MTB competition returned this year, for the first time since 2021. Five riders and filmmakers submitted their “most electrifying” ninety second edits for a chance to win X Games medals and prize money.

In a live-stream Thursday evening, X Games chatted with the athletes and filmmakers before announcing the first, second and third-place winners. Tom van Steenbergen and filmmaker Calvin Huth found themselves on top of the podium. Matt Macduff and filmmaker Louis Lhomel took home silver, while Dylan Stark and filmmaker Tyson Traner took home bronze.

"Tom rode three different bikes, multiple locations, did some stuff I've never seen before, just the total package of it was everything I would have expected in a medal-winning video part," said one of the judges of the decision.

Van Steenbergen, for all his accolades, seemed excited. "This is crazy. To even be a part of the X Games is nuts, and to get a gold medal? It's awesome."

Huth was equally elated. "Pretty crazy moment. As a filmer, you don't really expect to end up with an X Games medal, so it's super cool." He turned to van Steenbergen, grinning. "At the end of the day, you picked it up, so I just had to not drop it."

When award ceremony host and sports commentator Selema Masekela asked the pair what the moment meant to mountain biking, as a whole, van Steenbergen replied: "I like to think it's a big deal for mountain biking because it's a different audience. The X Games are something we all aspired to, growing up; going into the Real series, we all got a lot of inspiration from all the guys and girls here, all the different sports."

When asked how he felt about his silver medal, Macduff, never not his rawest version of himself, stated: "I don't really feel much different, but I'm really grateful for the opportunity." His filmmaker, Louis Lhomel was a bit more emotive: "Dream come true, man! This is an honor!"

Viewers still have time to vote for their personal pick; a fan-favorite will be announced June 30 during the X Games Ventura broadcast. The full X Games Real MTB show will air on ESPN on July 23.
