As families begin to pull out the grills, yard games and fireworks, you may want to stock up on the water and find shade for your Independence Day gatherings .

You can expect a triple-digit heat index on July 4, according to the National Weather Service in Mobile.

NWS told the News Journal "it does look like summertime heat is going to be the big issue" and that people will want to exercise caution when out doors and be prepared to stay hydrated.

According to NWS's outlook, Fourth of July temperatures can range from the low to mid 90s, but the heat index could hit 110 degrees, leading to potential heat stress.

The one saving grace for some daytime festivities could be the slight chance of showers and storms. There's roughly a 40% chance of rain and storms on Independence Day, which NWS says "would probably cool things off."

However, if you're planning on seeing a fireworks show, NWS says there's no need to worry about rain as the storms will come through during "the heating of the day."
