    Smith County gang investigator recognized with nonprofit award

    SMITH COUNTY, Texas ( KETK ) – The Texas Gang Investigators Association (TGIA) awarded a Smith County investigator with a prestigious award in San Antonio on Tuesday.

    According to a release, Smith County District Attorney Investigator Chris Miller, who is assigned at the East Texas Anti-Gang Center (TAG) received the Bond of Excellence Peace Officer of the Year Award at the annual TGIA conference in San Antonio.

    Before his current position, Miller served in the United States Marine Corps and the Tyler Police Department for over 30 years as a patrol officer, gang investigator and SWAT operator, a release said.

    “This award belongs to the entire group of men and women assigned to the TAG Center in Tyler,” Miller said.

    There are approximately 30 other gang investigators that work with Miller at the Tyler TAG center, which is one of only nine TAG centers in the state.

    TGIA, a nonprofit organization founded in 1991, has over 1,000 members helping to promote the fast dissemination of information concerning gang related incidents and investigations.
