GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The Pitt County Animal Services will be taking over Spay Today.

Spay Today was a clinic offering low-cost spay or neuter for pets. The clinic closed because it could not find a veterinarian to provide the services needed. They then donated their facility and equipment to the animal shelter. Pitt County is now bringing in a new provider to perform the surgeries.

“We can walk the animals straight from the shelter over to the clinic to get the services performed,” said Chad Singleton, Pitt County Animal Shelter director. “So it’s certainly better and less expensive on the county to be able to operate that way. It would be rather cumbersome to transport the animals over to another facility to contract with multiple vendors or veterinarians to be able to get the work done. So it’s a win-win for us.”

Right now, the animal services will only be able to do shelter pets, not any owned pets. The animal services department added that they are looking at grants or donations to be able to help provide those services again in the future.
