Award-winning float creator dropped by Tournament of Roses

A nearly three-hour pursuit spanning Orange and Los Angeles Counties ended as the driver parked under the 105 Freeway in Hawthorne and bailed on foot.The pursuit started around 10 a.m. on Wednesday after the suspect reportedly stole a car out of the Costa Mesa area.The original driver of the white Audi SUV surrendered to police during a traffic stop before a female passenger jumped behind the wheel and took over.   The driver got onto the 105 Freeway around 10:30 a.m. before hopping onto the 110 Freeway heading toward Los Angeles. The suspect was seen reaching speeds up over 100 mph.The California Highway Patrol along with other agencies were in pursuit and at times downgraded to a following as the driver recklessly continued both on freeways and surface streets.SkyCAL was not able to follow the entire pursuit as the driver went into air-restricted zones. Just after 12:30 p.m., SkyCAL caught sight of the car, as the driver was following traffic laws in the El Segundo area. The driver came to a stop under the 105 Freeway at Felton Avenue and West Imperial Highway, where the driver reportedly bailed on foot.

The City of West Hollywood says 12 of its city trees have been illegally trimmed, and has filed a police report with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, claiming vandalism.The dozen illegally trimmed trees along Santa Monica Boulevard between N. La Cienega Boulevard and N. Alfred Street included six Jacaranda trees and six Chinese Elm trees.The city says the trees were trimmed on June 19, the Juneteenth holiday when most city employees were off."Trees make our urban landscape greener, cleaner, and healthier," the City of West Hollywood said.More than 9,000 trees are maintained by the city in parkways and parks, on sidewalks and medians. Public trees in residential neighborhoods are trimmed once every three years and trees on commercial streets are trimmed annually, according to the city.Six of the trees illegally cut, Jacarandas, are known for their abundant purple flowers. From April to mid-June the purple blooms drop and carpet the ground below. The fallen flowers have been known to leave a sticky mess on sidewalks, or cars, followed by the trees' seed pods.

Four people were injured when a Metro bus collided with another car in Bell Gardens on Friday. The crash happened a little after 11:50 p.m. near Florence Avenue and Jaboneria Road, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials. Three of the victims of the crash were onboard the bus, while the fourth was inside of the car, according to a Metro spokesperson. They were all hospitalized. Both Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department units and Bell Gardens police arrived to assist with the incident. BGPD is expected to lead the investigation. "Metro thanks the bus operator for quickly calling for help.  We also wish a quick recovery for those injured," said a statement from a Metro spokesperson. The cause of the crash remains unclear. Anyone with further information is asked to contact investigators at (563) 806-7600.

Neighbors in the San Fernando Valley were asking police for help Wednesday after hundreds of brazen home burglaries have gone unsolved.A neighbor who did not want to be identified showed KCAL videos of his home in Studio City ransacked, with clothing thrown around his room and his windows smashed. "There's not a day that goes by that we don't think about it," he said. In the massive scheme, the burglars dress up as construction workers and use Wi-Fi jamming technology to evade security cameras, smash through glass, and steal possessions. Investigators believe there are several people involved in multiple plots. The Los Angeles Police Department said it is the latest neighborhood targeted in a series of burglaries in the North Hollywood and Studio City areas. 260 burglaries have been recorded so far with no arrests. Homeowners are now discussing hiring private patrols as an added layer of security. A neighborhood watch meeting was held Wednesday night with neighbors and LAPD officers in attendance.

A couple hiking in the desert near Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California was rescued after they were forced to huddle from the searing sun when they ran out of water in 100-degree-plus heat.

The pair was hiking on Ladder Canyon Trail in Mecca on June 9 when they called for medical aid, the Associated Press reported. The man said his girlfriend was dehydrated and weak. 

Temperatures that day in the area — one of the hottest spots in the US — reached 103 degrees, according to National Weather Service records.

Couple rescued in California desert after water runs out: video

A vacant building in Hollywood went up in flames Wednesday morning, leaving a woman with burn injuries, authorities said.Bright red flames could be seen within the windows of the building as plumes of smoke rose from the structure around 6:45 a.m., when SkyCal flew over the scene. The Los Angeles Fire Department received a report about the blaze at 6920 Sunset Boulevard at 6:33 a.m. and 45 firefighters managed to put it out within a half hour, LAFD officials said.First responders took a 35-year-old woman who suffered burn injuries to a nearby hospital.An LAFD official at the scene told KCAL News the building has caught on fire twice before.Authorities are considering whether to demolish the building due to safety concerns.No other details have been released by LAFD.


Hollywood building goes up in flames, woman suffers burn injuries

Investigators are searching for the gunman who left two men wounded after a shooting in Downtown Los Angeles on Friday. It happened at around 7:30 p.m. near the 800 block of W. Seventh Street, according to Los Angeles Police Department officers. They arrived to learn that two men were shot. They did not cooperate with the officers however, refusing to provide a description of the suspect. Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police reported. One is said to be in critical condition at the latest. No further information was provided.
