Friday night at the USA Olympic gymnastics trials was full of tears — both the good and the bad.

The competition got off to a shaky start as both Shilese Jones and Kayla DiCello suffered injuries on vault. Jones returned after injuring her knee during warmups, competing just on bars and winning the event before scratching everything else. DiCello, however, has a worse fate, as she withdrew from the competition for medical evaluation. Her status is unknown, but her Olympic dreams seem over.

Despite the pre-meet heartbreak, it was a big night for Olympic hopefuls, especially those who were in Tokyo. Simone Biles won the all-around, scoring just a 58.900 thanks to wobbles on the beam. Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, and Jade Carey rounded out the top four finishers, with Lee winning beam.

While it looks like it will be a repeat of the 2021 Olympic team, it's not over until it's over. A handful of gymnasts are poised to make a last-minute push, including Leanne Wong, Hezley Rivera, Tiana Sumanasekera, and Joscelyn Roberson.

It's going to come down to tenths, to inches, to the final routine. The fight for a trip to Paris will be decided on Sunday.

The Sporting News tracked live results from the first day of the women's competition at the USA Olympic gymnastics trials.

USA Olympic gymnastics trials live results, highlights from Day 2

    All times Eastern.

10:04 p.m. – Friday night is final. After one competition, Biles leads the all-around, followed by Chiles, Lee, Carey and Roberson. Jones's sole bars routine is the highest score on the event while Lee tops beam even with a wobble.

9:58 p.m. – Carey with the nearly-stuck Cheng on vault. She has a slight hop, but it's about as close as can be. She earns a huge 14.600.

9:47 p.m. – There's a reason Biles is the greatest of all time. She has a small hop and a step on her Yurchenko double pike. It earns her a standing ovation from the crowd before she even performs her second vault.

9:45 p.m. – Night 1 for Lee is complete with a beautiful and heartwarming 13.700. She finishes with a 56.025 in front of her home crowd.

9:32 p.m. – The reigning Olympic floor champion, Jade Carey, goes 14.075, a much-needed score for her as she now sits in sixth in the all-around heading into the final rotation.

9:15 p.m. – It seems just about every gymnast has wobbled on beam tonight. Biles, Chiles and now Lee. She manages to stay on, though, and still pulls off a 14.400.

9:00 p.m. – What a night for Chiles. She puts up a 14.100 on floor. She's the first gymnast to score over 14.000 on multiple events.

8:52 p.m. – After a mediocre beam routine from Biles, it's Wong that leads after two rotations. Biles is just three-tenths behind, followed by Chiles and Lee.

8:37 p.m. – Tiana Sumanasekera has arrived! The 16-year-old's beam routine earns a 13.950, the highest of the competition.

8:35 p.m. – Suni Lee, the hometown favorite, earns a 14.400 on bars, the third highest score of the event so far.

8:21 p.m. – Jones puts up a stunner on bars. She earns a 14.675. However, she has scratched floor and beam for tonight.

8:05 p.m. – After putting in an inquiry, Leanne Wong's vault is upgraded to a 14.450, and she leads all competitors after one rotation. Her Cheng previously received a 2.0 deduction for using only one hand but review determined both hands touched the table.

8:00 p.m. – Reminder: Jordan Chiles is that girl! She earns a 14.350 on bars to open the night.

    7:52 p.m. – Biles's search for a third Games begins!

7:51 p.m. – Jones is scratched on vault for tonight.

7:48 p.m. – DiCello will not continue the competition and is being further evaluated by medical staff.

    7:42 p.m. – Kayla DiCello down.

7:30 p.m. – Let out that breath you've been holding. Jones will compete .

7:11 p.m. – Shilese Jones appears to be injured. During her DTY in warmups, she lands awkwardly, grabbing her knee and must be carried out.

6:55 p.m. – The quest for a second Olympic Games begins now.

6:25 p.m. – Another competition, another Jade Carey mirror selfie showing off the new leos.
