As the modern NFL has evolved into a pass-happy game that favors elite quarterbacks and receivers, it's become increasingly vital for opposing defenses to find as many quality cornerbacks as possible to counter the impressive aerial talent on the other side of the ball.

If your favorite team is looking for a shutdown corner in the 2025 NFL draft class, here are some of the names they'll be watching throughout the college football season this fall:

    Will Johnson, Michigan

A big, athletic cover man with elite physical and mental traits, Johnson checks every box NFL scouts are looking for when it comes to evaluating top talent at this premium position. He's got ideal size and length for the position, and his combination of polished technique and playmaking instincts will allow him to succeed in any scheme or assignment.

If he continues to build on what we saw from him last year, Johnson could end up being a top-five pick, or even higher if none of this year's top quarterback prospects emerge as potential No. 1 overall selections.

    Travis Hunter, Colorado

One of the most intriguing players in all of college football, Hunter is a two-way star for the Buffs who might be talented enough to keep playing both ways at the next level. That said, he's a better corner prospect than a receiver prospect right now, and it's harder to find elite corners than it is to find good receivers.

If Hunter zeroes in on his corner skills, he could become an superstar at the next level with his impressive instincts and top-flight physical traits. He might still have value on offense in certain packages, but he could be an every-down star on defense, and a potential top-10 prospect in next year's draft.

    Benjamin Morrison, Notre Dame

Big, long and physical, Morrison is a polished prospect who should make an immediate impact at the next level. He's got impressive technique in both man and zone coverage, and tows the line between physical play and avoiding too much contact.

Morrison has all the traits that translate well to the next level, but consistency will be key to him taking the next step in his development. If can play to his ceiling on a snap-by-snap basis in 2024, he could end up getting top-15 consideration next April.

    Best of the Rest

    Denzel Burke, Ohio State

    Jabbar Muhammad, Oregon

    Tacario Davis, Arizona

    Jordan Hancock, Ohio State

    Quincy Riley, Louisville
