Storms return this weekend, strong wind gusts possible

Tonight features partly cloudy and much warmer conditions overnight, as a southeast wind carries air from the Appalachians and warms as the air descends into the valleys. As a result, we will see low temperatures only drop into the mid 60s, with occasional gusts up to 15 mph possible.
Saturday provides the returning risk for scattered showers and storms, mainly in the afternoon, with another system pushing through with a warm front lifting north in the morning and a cold front approaching late in the day. There should be plenty of dry time for the day but by the afternoon, storms will be scattered with highs temperatures in the mid 80s. Some storms could produce gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our region in a level one marginal risk for severe weather and the Weather Prediction Center has placed our region in a level one marginal risk for flooding.
Sunday continues our risk for scattered showers and storms, with the best chance for storms around lunchtime as a cold front passes through. That will cool temperatures a little for the second half of the weekend into the start of next week with highs around 80 for Sunday. Some storms could once again produce heavy rainfall. We’ll see conditions begin to clear out by sunset with decreasing clouds and drier air working its way in behind our front.
Monday will be dry and comfy with low humidity and much cooler temperatures with high pressure once again in control. We’ll see high temperatures stuck in the 70s for highs and overnight lows dropping into the low to mid 50s as we see a little break from the heat and humidity.
Tuesday keeps the sunshine going and we’ll be a little more summer-like once again as high pressure slides to our northeast and we subsequently pick up a southerly flow. As a result, high temperatures will jump back up into the mid 80s.
Wednesday sees partly sunny skies, but our southerly flow will continue to pump warmer and more humid air into the region as high temperatures jump into the upper 80s.
The 4th of July looks will feature some breaks, but we’ll have a front pushing through the region, which will provide the opportunity for a few fireworks from Mother Nature herself! Scattered showers and storms will be around with high temperatures in the mid 80s.
Friday continues the risk for scattered showers and storms with our front stalling. We will have plenty of breaks but occasional showers and storms are a good bet with high temperatures in the mid 80s.
Looking ahead in your extended forecast, we’ll see high pressure begin to nose in on Saturday. Aside from a brief isolated shower, we should remain dry with highs in the 80s. An isolated shower or two is possible Sunday with the heat and a low pressure system down to our south with highs in the 80s. Scattered storms will be possible on Monday with highs in the 80s.
