    Iowa National Guard members assisting flood-impacted communities

    JOHNSON, Iowa (KCAU) — The Iowa National Guard is sending 30 airmen from the 185th Air Refueling Wing and 132nd Wing to help clean up debris from the flooding in northwest Iowa communities.

    According to a release, the Iowa Air Guard will help Woodbury, Cherokee, Ida, and Buena Vista counties. The Air Guard has specialized personnel called Debris Removal Teams that use special tools like chainsaws, skid loaders, dump trucks, and more to carry out the mission.

    The release said that airmen in this domestic response mission are primarily assigned to the unit’s Civil Engineering Squadron.

    The mission comes after several northwest Iowa communities became inundated with historic flooding. Communities are now faced with a large amount of debris, including carpet, drywall, furniture, and more.
