During Friday’s edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC, Joy Reid offered a metaphor for voting in the 2024 election that likened casting a ballot for Donald Trump to eating shit.

Reid and other hosts on the network addressed the ongoing fallout from President Joe Biden’s putrid debate performance on Thursday night. A raspy Biden frequently struggled to express his thoughts while at point announcing, “We finally beat Medicare.”

The president’s showing was so bad that MSNBC’s post-debate coverage involved detailed discussions about Biden possibly being replaced. On Friday, the New York Times even called for him to drop out of the race.

Reid and her guests spent Friday’s show acknowledging Biden’s bad outing while underscoring the nature of the alternative.

“It’s either him or Trump,” said David Plouffe, a former adviser to President Barack Obama.

“It’s literally, you go to a dinner and your choices are steak or a pile of poo,” Reid replied. “This is not a difficult choice. Pick the steak! For the love of God!”

“Well, and he likes his steaks medium, ” Plouffe said. “Not like, well done crisp.”

Infamously, Trump enjoys his steaks very cooked.

“With ketchup on them,” Reid noted. “He doesn’t even know how to make steak. That’s it y’all. These are your choices. It’s a binary choice. You need to make it.”

In his first dinner in Washington, D.C. after becoming president, Trump ordered a $54 strip steak well done with ketchup.

As the food critic of the Washington Post said at the time, “Really, I feel the same way about masking the flavor of a $54 dry-aged steak as I do about guys who wear baseball caps indoors: Just don’t. Anyone who knows anything about cooking meat knows the longer it stays on the grill, the drier and tougher it becomes.”
