    Some low-income families could be eligible for free tax assistance in Montgomery County

    MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Some low-income families in Montgomery County may be eligible for free tax assistance.

    Residents with a combined household income of $64,000 or less are encouraged to schedule a free appointment with the county’s Community Action Agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA).

    The program will accept returns from the current and previous years and amended returns.

    Virtual appointments are available Mondays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and can be made by calling (240) 777-1123.

    In-person appointments are available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be scheduled by calling (240) 777-1123 or booking one online here .

    The program can also help VITA tax preparers with access to valuable tax credits, including Federal and State Earned Income Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits and the County’s Working Families Income Supplement.
