The New England Patriots did what most expected and selected a quarterback in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

North Carolina signal-caller Drake Maye was the Patriots' selection, but the pick did not come without its fair share of controversy.

Social media users, and even one former Super Bowl champion quarterback from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, have trolled the Patriots for the pick ever since, insisting they may have made a terrible mistake.

Shaun King, who backed up Brad Johnson on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 2002 Super Bowl-winning team, spoke about the NFL Draft recently, which is when his opinion on the Patriots' choice of Maye finally came to the forefront.

"I think the draft is where teams mess up," King said , according to Musketfire.com.

"I'm telling you now, Drake Maye is not a first-round (pick). He's not. He's a developmental quarterback.

"He comes from a great family. If given time to mature and grow into being a more confident, consistent player, he can be OK. But what did you bypass to take a developmental quarterback at (pick No.) 3?'

Maye was taken behind two other quarterbacks -- Caleb Williams at No. 1 and Jayden Daniels at No. 2. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., offensive tackle Joe Alt and WR Malik Nabers were the next three picks in the draft, which was held in April in Detroit.
