    Fireworks, parades in Lenawee and Hillsdale counties to mark Independence Day holiday

    Fireworks will light up the sky on several evenings leading up to and after the Independence Day holiday on July 4, and some communities in and near Lenawee and Hillsdale counties will mark the Fourth of July with parades.

    The following are fireworks displays and parades scheduled over the next few weeks. To add an event to the list, email news@lenconnect.com.

    July 3

    Hillsdale: The annual Independence Day celebrations on July 3 in Hillsdale wrap up with the fireworks display at dusk at the fairgrounds. The parade is scheduled for 6 p.m. Following the parade, the Leighr A. Wright American Legion Post 53 of Hillsdale and the Hillsdale County Fairgrounds will host the 98th annual Great American Celebration at the Hillsdale County Fairgrounds.

    The Great American Celebration is free to the public and includes bounce houses, laser tag, a DJ, a band, food vendors and fireworks.

    The gates at the fairgrounds open at 5 p.m., and the band is scheduled to begin playing at 6 p.m. Fireworks will start at 10:10 p.m.

    Jackson: The Independence Day celebration at The Cascades, 1401 S. Brown St., in Jackson is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. July 3 with music by The New Rule. Gates open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 for children ages 4-12, $7 for teens and adults, and $5 for seniors 65 and older. The fireworks will begin at dusk.

    Manchester: Fireworks hosted by the Manchester Men's Club begin at dusk July 3 at Carr Park, 599 W. Main St. The event opens at 4 p.m., and the beer tent opens at 7 p.m. with seating available for viewing fireworks. There will be multiple food vendors and an ATM on site.

    July 4

    Adrian: The Civitan of Lenawee Fourth of July Parade lines up at 9 a.m. July 4 on Greenly, St. Joseph, Company and Chandler streets before stepping off at 10 a.m. It proceeds up Maumee Street to Monument Park.

    Brooklyn: The parade lines up at 9:30 a.m. July 4 on Irwin St. and steps off at 10 a.m. At 9:30 a.m. on the village square there will be a patriotic hat contest, a cake walk, a candy wagon and other activities. Fun on the Field begins at 11 a.m. at Columbia Upper Elementary School, 321 School St, with a cornhole tournament. Teams can sign up on the Scoreholio app or at 10 a.m. at the field. At 3 p.m., there will be a variety of activities including interactive games and music. The Food Truck Extravaganza begins at 5 p.m., and fireworks are scheduled for dusk.

    Clark Lake: As an alternative to fireworks, several residents of Clark Lake display luminaries along the lakeshore at dusk.

    Vineyard Lake: The Fourth of July boat parade is scheduled for noon to 2 p.m. July 4.

    July 5

    Adrian: Fireworks will cap off the July First Fridays in downtown Adrian. The show is scheduled for dark at Comstock Park, which is just west of downtown on West Maumee Street between West Church Street and College Avenue. Race Street and the Kiwanis Trail between West Maple Avenue and West Maumee Street will be closed before and during the fireworks, a news release from the city of Adrian said. Parking will be available in the public lots downtown.

    DJ John Hess will spin tunes from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the park. Guests are invited to dance the night way or bring blankets and lawn chairs to hang out and listen to the tunes and watch the fireworks.

    First Fridays that evening will feature the Adrian Fire Truck Pull; a Touch-A-Truck event; live music with Jaded Soul and On the Rocks; the Bikes, Trikes, and Hot Wheels Show and Parade; the Adrian Armory Centennial Celebration; specials and activities at downtown businesses; and a Hot Wheels giveaway to the first 500 kids under 12.

    Maumee Street between Winter and Broad streets and Main Street between East Church and Toledo streets will be closed from 2:30 until approximately 9:30 p.m.

    Loch Erin: Fireworks are scheduled for dusk July 5.

    Manitou Beach: The annual Devils and Round lakes fireworks are scheduled for 10 p.m. July 5. The rain date is July 6.

    Somerset Township: The annual fireworks show at McCourtie Park, 10426 S. Jackson Road, is scheduled to start at dusk July 5. Free, family activities start at 3 p.m., and the band Jack Pine Savages will perform at the pavilion from 6 to 8 p.m.

    July 6

    Adrian: The grand finale of the River Raisin Ragtime Revue's Ragtime Extravaganza is a fireworks show at about 10 p.m. The event runs from 2 to 10 p.m. at the PlaneWave Instruments campus at the corner of North Main Street and Curtis Road. Visitors should enter from the Curtis Road entrance. Musical performances are scheduled throughout the day by the Adrian City Band, Los Hermanos, the ragtime and early jazz duo Miss Maybell and Charlie Judkins, and the River Raisin Ragtime Revue. Several food and drink vendors will be on site.

    Lake Diane, Posey Lake, Sand Lake and Wamplers Lake: Fireworks at dusk.

    July 12

    Blissfield: The River Raisin Festival's annual fireworks display is scheduled for Friday, July 12. The rain date is Saturday, July 13. The festival takes place at Ellis and Bachmeyer parks in Blissfield.

    July 20

    Tecumseh: A fireworks display is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, as part Tecumseh's bicentennial celebration weekend. The fireworks show will be at Tecumseh High School, 760 Brown St.
