    Why are flags half-staff Saturday in Massachusetts?

    CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Governor Maura Healey has ordered all U.S. American and Massachusetts flags to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday.

    The order was issued to honor Army Staff Sergeant Johnathon Daniel Maine of Winchendon, who died June 12th at the age of 26. According to his obituary , SSG. Maine died after battling cancer.

    A celebration of life will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service at James H. Delaney & Sons Funeral Home in Walpole.

    The order calls for all flags to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, the date of interment.
