Capitals Draft Tracker: Every Pick And Trade That The Team Has Made In Vegas

LAS VEGAS — The Washington Capitals have had quite the time at the 2024 NHL Draft, keeping busy with picks and trades aplenty.

After selecting Terik Parascak with the 17th overall pick on Friday, D.C. has been much more active on Day 2 at the Sphere, trading Beck Malenstyn and swapping picks in order to move up on two occasions.

Here is every move that the Capitals have made so far in each round. This isbeing updated in real time.

Round 1

The Capitals surprised with their selection, taking Terik Parascak earlier than expected. Parascak is coming off a standout rookie season with the WHL's Prince George Cougars where he had 105 points in 68 games.

Round 2

Washington moved up ahead of the second round, sending forward Beck Malenstyn to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for the 43rd overall pick. With that selection, D.C. took high-scoring defenseman Cole Hutson.

Hutson thrives when it comes to his offensive skillset with his great playmaking ability and shooting.

The Capitals weren't done there, though, and took Swiss blueliner Leon Muggli with the 52nd overall pick. He's more of a defensive defenseman, known for his skating, awareness and high hockey IQ.

Round 3

In the third round, Washington made some noise with its draft capital, sending the third-round pick they'd received from the New York Islanders to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Logan Thompson.

Thompson completes the Capitals' tandem for next season, as he is expected to compete with Charlie Lindgren in a 1A/1B situation, unless Lindgren continues to prove he's the bonafide starter as he did this past season.

Then, D.C. moved up to 75th and sent some more picks to the New Jersey Devils in order to draft Ilya Protas. Protas is the younger brother of Washington forward Aliaksei.

With the 90th overall pick, the Capitals took Saint John Seadogs forward Eriks Mateiko. He's a power forward who prides himself on the defensive aspect of his game.

Round 4

With the 114th pick, Washington selected USNTDP goaltender Nicholas Kempf.

Round 6

With the 178th overall pick, their last pick, the Capitals selected Czech center Petr Sikora.

Round 7

Washington traded up to 212 to take Miroslav Satan Jr., a 6-foot-7 center and son of NHL legend Miroslav Satan.
