GREENVILLE. N.C (WNCT) — With millions of human trafficking victims worldwide and here in Eastern North Carolina, local leaders are fighting for justice and raising attention to these issues.

Organizations like NC Stop Human Trafficking are celebrating a new law passed that has made solicitation a felony, instead of a misdemeanor. With changes going on in the legislature, countless lives can be saved. However, there is still more work to be done, and Chief Operating Officer, Melinda Sampson, said they continue educating those who need it most.

“We educated over 500 law enforcement officers last year alone and hopefully will double that this year,” she said. “Health care providers too, because victims seek health care and health care providers really don’t know what they’re seeing when they see it in the health care setting.”
