    24-25 Convos Schedule released

    Purdue’s 2024-2025 Convocations schedule was announced last week, noting the show times for a slate of 15 acts performing at Purdue from September to April.

    The shows are listed below in chronological order.

    Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Live in Concert

    September 15, 2024, 6 p.m. (Elliott Hall of Music)

    The second installment of the animated “Spider-Verse” films will play in Elliott Hall in a special kind of live theater. The film will be played on a massive HD screen, accompanied by an ensemble of musicians performing its soundtrack live.

    29th Annual West Lafayette Global Fest

    September 21, 2024, 3-10 p.m. (Downtown West Lafayette)

    Free Admission

    Performances include Bia Ferriera, the Brazilian singer and activist, Yemen Blues playing contemporary Jewish and Arabic tunes and the Balkan Paradise Orchestra with their latest album “Nectar”.

    The Global Fest will be the stop for many regional food trucks and vendors for local business around the Greater Lafayette Area.

    Dear Evan Hansen

    The modern coming of age musical dubbed “theatrical magic” by the Washington Post follows the journey of Evan Hansen, a shy high school student, through multiple points of view.

    A Conversation with Yo-Yo Ma

    September 29, 2024, 2 p.m. (Elliott Hall of Music)

    Free Admission

    A special production presented by the Purdue Presidential Lecture Series, and moderated by PBS NewsHours correspondent Jeffrey Brown, brings Yo-Yo Ma, the world renewed cellist and humanitarian to share the intersections of music and life through personal anecdotes.

    The Isaiah J. Thompson Quartet

    October 12, 2024, 8 p.m. (Loeb Playhouse)

    Isaiah J. Thompson, an accomplished musician who attended Juilliard and has collaborated with many jazz luminaries, made his recording debut for jazz at Lincoln Center’s Blue Engine Records. He will bring a classic night of jazz to Loeb Playhouse.

    TINA – The Tina Turner Musical

    October 19, 2024, 7:30 p.m. (Elliott Hall of Music)

    An uplifting comeback story, “TINA – The Tina Turner Musical” is all about the story of the woman who broke barriers to become synonymous with the legends of Rock ‘n’ Roll on a global stage.

    Terence Blanchard’s “Fire Shut Up In My Bones” Excerpts in Concert

    January 21, 2025, 7 p.m. (Elliott Hall of Music)

    The performance scheduled as a nod to Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a moving musical performance by Blanchard, a celebrated artist with seven Grammy Awards and two Oscar nominations. The story is about the excavation of a painful past and the desire to move beyond it, and features additional vocalists.

    Mingus Big Band

    January 24, 2025, 8 p.m. (Loeb Playhouse)

    Influenced by the likes of Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus was a legendary New Orleans jazz musician. The posthumously formed, and Grammy-nominated Mingus Big Band (1979) honors the brilliance of Mingus by keeping things fresh and spontaneous.

    Hadestown

    February 6, 2025, 7:30 p.m. (Elliott Hall of Music)

    A production that won 8 Tony awards in 2019 and a 2020 Grammy Award for best musical theater album intertwines the tales of Orpheus and Eurydice with those of King Hades and Persephone.

    Pretty Woman: The Musical

    February 20, 2025, 7:30 p.m. (Elliott Hall of Music)

    A timeless Hollywood romance under the direction of two-time Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell hits Elliott Hall.

    Hamlet

    February 28-March 3, 2025 (three shows), 8 p.m. (Loeb Playhouse)

    One of Shakespeare’s finest some 400 years later, performed by actors from The London Stage for a hectic “encore week-long residency,” where each actor shares responsibility for the direction of the performance and performs more than one role.

    Chicago

    April 3, 2025, 7:30 p.m. (Elliott Hall of Music)

    The long-running Broadway show is a good-feel musical showcasing the Chicago’s Jazz Age.

    Les Arts Florissants with Theotime Langlois de Swarte, violin

    April 10, 2025, 7:30 p.m. (Loeb Playhouse)

    Les Arts Florissants, founded in 1979, known for their baroque music and profound instrument performances, will join violinist Theotime Langlois de Swarte for a 300-anniversary performance of “Vivaldi’s Four Seasons” (1725).
