Singer-songwriter Mike Kota begins a weekly July residency at the Green Room this week. Their songs are soulful and introspective, accompanied by a powerful voice and an ability blend genres in surprising ways. The residency opens with support from Lana Leone and Walker Rider.

Trampled by Turtles are playing a big hometown show in Duluth on Saturday, but for those sticking around the Twin Cities over the holiday weekend, The Baseball Project combines live music and America's pastime.
Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey, Mike Mills, Linda Pitmon, and Steve Wynn join forces to sing songs about baseball. (Los Lobos' Steve Berlin also plays on the latest record, Grand Salami Time .) Though, you might be more familiar with their other bands — R.E.M., The Dream Syndicate, Young Fresh Fellows, The Minus 5, Filthy Friends — The Baseball Project is a deeply enjoyable tribute to the game.
The Minneapolis trio is playing around the state a fair amount this summer, but their jazzy sound and updated renditions of familiar songs are a beautiful fit for the Hewing Hotel's rooftop. Their shows are always upbeat and fun.
