I tried the global menu at this one-of-a-kind McDonald’s — here’s which items are worth the journey

Bon appetit, McD’s fans.

Tommy Winkler, a food influencer on TikTok with more than 10 million followers, visited a Chicago branch of McDonald’s that reportedly sells special menu items that aren’t sold anywhere else in the US. A June 20 post sharing his unique experience and rating each item has over 1.1 million views on the app.

“Today, I’m eating from an international McDonald’s,” begins Winkler, AKA The Food Guy, in a recent video. “So, they have menu items from all over the world. Let’s eat!”

He started his global fast food trek in Spain where they boast a burger called the Grand McExtreme Intense Cheddar, featuring the tangy, orange-hued cheese of English origin. Winkler rated this sandwich an 8.7 out of 10.

The gustatory globetrotter paired his first burger with a side of McShaker Fries from Finland, dusted with a hot piri-piri seasoning that you “shake” on yourself by tossing the fries and spices together in a McDonald’s bag. Winkler chalked up 7 out of 10 for this Finnish fry dish.

Next up was a back-to-back round of spicy, fried chicken sandwiches hailing from Asia: the McSpicy Samurai of Thailand is doused in a sweet Teriyaki sauce, while the standard McSpicy from Hong Kong hit all the marks of a typical crispy chicken sandwich with a kick. Winkler gave each an 8 and 8.4 out of 10, respectively.

For dessert, Winkler picked up Japan’s soft serve ice cream in a waffle cone topped with hot fudge and almonds. He rated the classic to-go treat an 8.6 out of 10. Lastly, he downed a Triple Chocolate Mini Donut, a chocolatey confection dunked in chocolate frosting and garnished with mini chocolate chips. Despite the rich, triple dose of cocoa, Winkler gave this dish just a 5.8 out of 10.

Winkler isn’t the only foodie to highlight McDonald’s favorite from around the world. Ex-McDonald’s chef Mike Haracz has previously gone viral on TikTok for revealing McD’s trade secrets as well as showcasing some of the best dishes from the restaurant chain’s worldwide convention , hosted earlier this year in Barcelona. In an April TikTok post, Haracz presented three items from abroad: Spain’s patatas bravas (potato wedges), Japan’s spicy garlic McNuggets and Germany’s Biscoff cookie McFlurry.
