Driver critically injured in officer-involved shooting Saturday in Adams County

BIG FLATS – The Wisconsin Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Saturday afternoon in the Adams County town of Big Flats.

At about 3 p.m. Saturday, Adams County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call that a driver was under the influence of narcotics and armed with firearms, according to a news release from the Wisconsin DOJ. Officers searched for and located the reported vehicle about an hour later and initiated several short pursuits. During a pursuit, the driver fired a weapon at law enforcement, at which officers returned fire, the release said.

The driver was injured and received medical attention on the scene. The driver was transported to a hospital with critical injuries. No one else was injured during the incident, the release said.

The involved officers are on administrative assignment, per agency policy, the release said.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation and is being assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, town of Rome Police Department, Wisconsin State Crime Lab and a DCI crime response specialist.

The Division of Criminal Investigation will turn over reports to the Adams County district attorney when the investigation is complete.
