Usher fans who waited all night to see him receive his Lifetime Achievement Award and watch his tribute at the 2024 BET Awards might have been left disappointed as they all wondered the same thing.

The show took place on Sunday, June 30, and was set to honor the R&B superstar and his decades-long career, but his fans were surprised by the talent that was chosen to sing and perform the singer’s biggest hits.

To kick things off, Donald Glover , musically known as Childish Gambino, took the stage. Followed by Keke Palmer, Summer Walker, Tinashe, Coco Jones, Victoria Monet, Teyana Taylor, Marsha Ambrosius, and others. They performed his songs like "Nice & Slow," "There Goes My Baby," "Bad Girl," "Yeah!," "Good Kisser," and more.

The tribute was done by mostly women, aside from Gambino, and some fans were wondering if that was done on purpose. "Did Usher specifically ask for all women for this? Latto???" one confused fan asked about the lineup.

"I won’t be shocked if Usher requested an all female tribute. He is corny like that #BETAwards,” one fan joked, adding the laughing emojis.

"So was there not any other guys to be in this Usher tribute???? Marsha was perfect though! Also, no peers???” another wrote. "I mean, the girlies are doing good, but I was not expecting any of them on this tribute, not for Usher."

One cut straight to the point, writing: "I love the girls but where are the men?”

There were some that were fans of some of the performers chosen for the tribute. "I kinda liked Coco Jones and Chloe Bailey’ Usher tribute #BETAwards," a fan shared.

Not only did the performance leave them wanting more, but Usher's speech was also hit by an audio malfunction. The singer gave a lengthy speech that was affected by censoring that cut off most of what he said while accepting the award.
