    Lenawee County Athlete of the Year voting

    Another banner year for Lenawee County high school athletes is in the books.

    There were records broken, titles won and outstanding efforts across the county and there is one last title to be earned, the inaugural Lenawee County Athlete of the Year, voted on by the readers.

    Earning nominations are each Lenawee County award winner from the 2023-24 season and few other First Team All-County selections from the various sports this season.

    Here are the 23 nominees:

    BOYS ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

    Sean Parker, Adrian

    Parker came into his senior year at Adrian with high expectations and lived up to all of them.

    In the fall, as the quarterback of the Maples, he led them to the playoffs. In the winter, he helped lead Adrian to another strong season and earned Second Team All-County honors. In the spring, he was the Maples ace and helped led them to back-to-back SEC White and district titles.

    Tyler Bruggeman, Adrian

    Bruggeman is a leader among the junior class at Adrian and was the Maples leader in the lineup as the leadoff hitter and centerfield.

    Bruggeman earned Lenawee County Baseball Player of the Year as the most dangerous piece of Adrian's lineup this past season.

    Matthew Canales, Adrian

    Canales wrapped up his senior season strong, earning Lenawee County Track Athlete of the Year honors as he took third in the state in the 800-meter and broke the school's record in the event.

    He was also one of the top runners in the county in cross country, helping lead Adrian to seventh-place finish in the state.

    Braylon Petty, Adrian

    Petty was the Lenawee County Cross Country Runner of the Year as he took all-state honors in Division 2 in the fall and was the county champion in both meets.

    Petty also had a strong spring and was part of another strong 4x800 group for the Maples, which placed seventh in the state and won county and regional titles.

    Joey Spagnoli, Adrian

    Spagnoli wrapped up his senior season as the Lenawee County Soccer Player of the Year after putting his name all of the Maples' record boards.

    Adrian had a great season, going 14-8 with Spagnoli posting the most points in a single-season for the Maples and the second-most goals and assists.

    Carson Ritz, Adrian

    Ritz led the Maples to one of their best seasons on the links. He was the Lenawee County Golfer of the Year and reclaimed his county meet title for the first time since he was a freshman.

    He also led Adrian to its first county title in more than 15 years. Before the golf season, he was captain of the Lenawee United hockey program, which had its best season yet.

    Blake Terrill, Blissfield

    Terrill earned Lenawee County Bowler of the Year, winning the county title and a regional title.

    He also helped get the Royals into bracket play of the state meet.

    Nik Shadley, Clinton

    Shadley was a multi-sport start for the Redwolves, helping lead Clinton to the regional finals in football as the Lenawee County Offensive Player of the Year.

    He was also an All-County honoree in baseball as helped Clinton to another 20-win season.

    Nicholas Sorrow, Hudson

    The Tigers' sophomore dominated his way to his second Lenawee County Wrestler of the Year honor as he won his second individual and second team state title.

    Through two seasons, Sorrow has already piled up 102 wins and has only lost two matches and has won every MHSAA title imaginable.

    Sam Lutz, Lenawee Christian

    Lutz helped lead the Cougars to a third 8-man state championship in four seasons while also earning Lenawee County 8-man Player of the Year honors and the AP 8-man Player of the Year honor.

    Lutz did it all, leading with his arm and legs at quarterback while also playing cornerback on defense. After football was done, he helped LCS to a strong season in basketball and ran in the 4x100 race in the Division 4 track and field state championships.

    Ayden Davis, Onsted

    Davis put the finishing touches on one of the best high school basketball careers in Lenawee County history and was a finalist for Mr. Basketball in the state of Michigan.

    Davis completed his career with the county record in blocks, is one of the top-scorers all-time and rebounders while earning Lenawee County Basketball Player of the Year honors for a third-straight season.

    AJ Bryan, Tecumseh

    Bryan finished an incredible run as the running back for Tecumseh football, repeating as Lenawee County Football Player of the Year.

    He rushed for 1,225 yards, had 492 yards receiving, 30 touchdowns, 30 tackles, two sacks and an interception in his senior year. After football finished, he helped the basketball team to another winning season and on the track, was the won four county track and field titles to earn Most Outstanding Athlete honors at the county meet.

    GIRLS ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

    Molly Brown, Addison

    Brown had a tremendous year in two sports, being named Lenawee County Volleyball Player of the Year and also winning a few state titles in track and field.

    Brown led the Panthers to their first district title in decades in volleyball before on the track, winning both hurdle events in Division 4 and also taking all-state honors in the 100 and 200.

    Cassidy Hawken, Adrian

    Hawken won the county title, leading the Maples to the team win to help earn Lenawee County Golfer of the Year.

    She was the top player on a team made up of all juniors as she helped Adrian earn a spot as a team in the Division 2 state meet for the first time in seven years.

    Avery Collins, Blissfield

    Collins was a standout in multiple sports and led a couple of different Royals teams to winning seasons.

    First and foremost, Collins in the floor general for the Blissfield girls basketball team where she led the Royals to an LCAA title this season after making a run to the Division 3 championship game a season ago.

    She was also a prolific scorer for the Blissfield girls soccer team, leading the Royals to a solid season this year. She was also a top sprinter for Blissfield a season ago in track, but focused on soccer this season.

    Bella Treloar, Blissfield

    Treloar finished her time with the Royals strong with an incredible senior season to earn Lenawee County Pitcher of the Year.

    Treloar went 14-2 this season with a 0.86 ERA and 223 strikeouts and was also the setter for the Royals in volleyball.

    Aubrey Lauer, Clinton

    Lauer had one of the most prolific seasons in MHSAA history, let alone Lenawee County as she netted 75 goals, breaking the county's single-season mark and is if she repeats the feat, she'll have the most goals in MHSAA history.

    She was also on a pretty good Clinton volleyball squad in the fall.

    Kendall Phillip, Clinton

    Phillip repeated as Lenawee County Softball Player of the Year as she led the county in home runs with 10 and was among the top in nearly every other category as well.

    Not only was strong at the plate, she wasn't bad in the pitcher's circle either with a record of 13-5, 2.23 ERA and 178 strikeouts.

    Kyleigh Ramos, Clinton

    Ramos was an all-around athlete, earning All-County honors in multiple sports.

    Ramos was one of top golfers in the county, was a leader on the basketball team and was the Redwolves' senior leader at catcher.

    Hannah Baker, Lenawee Christian

    Baker had a delayed start to her senior season as she was recovering from a knee injury in her junior season of basketball.

    When she returned for the volleyball team, the Cougars took off and made it all the way to the Division 4 state semifinals at Battle Creek. She was also an All-County honoree in basketball for LCS.

    Jillian Kendrick, Madison

    Kendrick was one of the top setters in the county this season as she helped direct the Trojans to another solid volleyball season.

    In the spring, she helped Madison claim another league title, now in the LCAA after years of dominating the TCC.

    Emmry Ross, Onsted

    If winning the Division 3 girls track and field team runners-up title by herself wasn't enough, take a look at the cross country numbers as well.

    Ross is one of the most dominate runners in Lenawee County history, winning almost every meet to earn all-state honors in Division 3 and then winning the 400, 800, 1,600 and 3,200 titles in the spring.

    Sydney Nichols, Onsted

    Nichols wrapped up a strong career on the lanes for the Wildcats as she won a fourth Lenawee County title.

    During her time for Onsted, she not only claimed four county titles, but she won her second regional title this season to go with her 2023 state title.

    Alli Zajac, Tecumseh

    Zajac earned Lenawee County Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the second time in three seasons as she led Tecumseh to its best season, perhaps ever.

    Zajac was a dominate force for Tecumseh as she became the school's all-time scoring leader and led her team to a regional title and nearly made it all the way to the Breslin Center. In the fall, she played a big role for the volleyball team.
