The High School Baseball Player of the Year for Bucks County area was a dual threat

When Grayson Weikel began attending Faith Christian as a sophomore after being homeschooled, he dreamed of winning a baseball state championship.

Everything fell into place for Weikel and the Lions this spring, culminating in a 4-1 victory over Eden Christian in the PIAA Class A state title game that completed a 23-0 season.

All Weikel did was bat .484 with 6 doubles, 10 home runs, 40 RBIs and 28 runs scored during his senior year. He also went 9-0 pitching with a 1.72 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 44⅔ innings, earning MVP honors for the Bicentennial Athletic League Presidents Division.

"This was the most fun I've ever had playing baseball not only because of our success but I was playing with some of my closest friends," said Weikel, a Harleysville resident. "… I couldn't have asked for a better season."

That Faith lost the District One championship game to Jenkintown in 2022 and Dock Mennonite last year by a combined three runs made the accomplishment even more special. The Lions had never been beyond the state quarterfinals until this spring.

Weikel and Faith didn't just win games — they typically cruised. The Lions outscored opponents 244-23, with 13 double-digit victories and nine shutouts.

The 6-foot, 195-pound Weikel, who'll play in college at Division II Cedarville (Ohio), had six RBIs, including a two-run homer, in an 11-1 state quarterfinal victory over MMI Prep. He followed up that performance by tossing a five-hit complete game with eight strikeouts and no walks in a 6-1 semifinal win against Bishop McCort.

"Knowing after the final out of the game we were heading to Penn State for the state championship game was an incredible feeling," Weikel said.

For all of his accomplishments, Weikel is the Courier Times/Intell Baseball Player of the Year.

First-year Faith head coach Nick Koffel raved about Weikel's contributions in numerous areas.

"Grayson is excellent at what he does," Koffel said. "Whether it is pitching, hitting, fielding, communicating or leading, he is one of the best I have ever seen. He is someone that'll be almost impossible to replace. He has been so dynamic all year. He is one of a kind and I know he will do great things at the next level."
