We rank the top 65 girls in Delaware high school sports for 2023-24

1 day agoWith summer in full swing, it's time to close the book on the year of high school sports.
Here is our ranking of the top 65 girls from the past school year. Every athlete played a key role on the state's most successful squads or stood out to the coaches and media members that select the All-State teams. Some of them thrived in multiple sports, requiring different skills.
65. Gracie Maughan, sr., Sussex Academy
Maughan won the 100-yard breaststroke by almost two seconds and finished third in the 200-yard individual medley at the DIAA Swimming and Diving Championships .
64. Lindsay D'Ambrogi, sr., Cape Henlopen
After two injury-shortened seasons, D'Ambrogi was a leading scorer this spring for Cape Henlopen's 18-0 state champion lacrosse team and a first team All-State honoree.
63. Tessa Colasante, jr., Tatnall
Colasante helped lead Tatnall to a 14-1 regular season and the girls lacrosse state championship game. She was a first team All-State selection.
62. Eliza Johnson, jr., Ursuline
Moments after swimming on the winning medley relay team at the swimming state meet, Johnson finished second in the 200-yard individual medley. She also placed third in the 100-yard freestyle and swam on Ursuline’s second-place 400-yard free relay.
61. Jada Snow, jr., Sanford
Snow led Sanford to the semifinals of the DIAA girls basketball tournament and earned second team All-State honors .
60. Ericka Huggins, sr., St. Elizabeth
The Vikings leading scorer in basketball, Huggins earned first team All-State honors . She is committed to Delaware State .
59. Molly Pietlock, sr., Tower Hill
A first team All-State selection , Pietlock helped lead Tower Hill to the semifinals of the girls volleyball state tournament.
58. Tori Andes, sr., Middletown
Andes was selected to the girls soccer Top XI team and earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors as a member of the state champion Cavaliers. She is committed to Neumann.
57. Bayli Glanden, so., Lake Forest
Glanden earned first-team All-State honors in softball as a member of the 16-3 Spartans.
56. Anna Bockius, so., Padua
Bockius won the Division I race at the cross country state meet and ran on Padua's state record 4x400 and 4x800 relays indoors and outdoors. She also competed on Padua's soccer team.
55. Carlita Kaliher, sr., Tatnall
In her final high school race at the Meet of Champions, Kaliher became the third-fastest 3,200 runner in state history, finishing in 10:26.39. She ran on Tatnall's winning 4xmile relay at Nike Indoor Nationals , anchored the team's second-place distance medley at Penn Relays and was a key contributor to the Hornets' Nike Cross Southeast Regional team win.
54. Kelsey Beatie, so., Appoquinimink
Beatie was selected to the girls soccer Top XI team and earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors.
53. Ruby Schwelm, jr., Tatnall
In her first spring at Tatnall, Schwelm ran times inside the top 11 on the state all-time performance list in the 800 (2:10.58), 1,600 (4:52.49) and 3,200 (10:34.06). She ran on Tatnall's winning 4xmile relay at Nike Indoor Nationals , anchored the team's second-place distance medley at Penn Relays and was a key contributor to the Hornets' Nike Cross Southeast Regional team win.
52. Aaliyah Turpin, so., Smyrna
Turpin ran the fastest time of the decade in Delaware in the 100 hurdles (14.34) at the Meet of Champions . She also took down the short-hurdle fields in the Henlopen Conference and Division I, and won the Henlopen Conference 100.
51. Bella Caraballo, sr., Ursuline
Caraballo contributed three second-place finishes (500 free, 100 breast, 400 free relay) and swam on the winning medley relay team as Ursuline ran away with the team title at the swimming state meet .
50. Anna Mumford, fr., Sussex Academy
Mumford won the 500-yard freestyle and placed third in the 200-yard freestyle at the swimming state meet .
49. Anaya Price, sr., Caravel
A strong three-point shooter, Price was a key contributor to Caravel's 20-win basketball team that reached the state championship game. Price also played for the Buccaneers' Division II championship soccer team.
48. Morgan Newcomb, sr., Cape Henlopen
The first team All-State goalkeeper in field hockey , Newcomb led a Cape Henlopen defense that allowed only five goals in 18 games this fall.
47. C.C. DeCaro, jr., Ursuline
DeCaro, a first team All-State selection , helped lead Ursuline to the volleyball state championship match.
46. Meghan Mumford, sr., Tower Hill
Tower Hill reached the semifinals of the girls volleyball state tournament led, in part, by Mumford, a first team All-State selection .
45. Hannah Maney, sr., Cape Henlopen
Maney earned first team All-State honors in field hockey for the state champion Vikings. She is committed to Iowa.
44. Chasity Wilson, sr., Caravel
A first-team All-State selection, Wilson was the leading scorer for Caravel's basketball team. The top seed in the DIAA tournament , the Buccaneers lost in the state championship game to Ursuline.
43. Claire Lopez, so., Cape Henlopen
A leading goal scorer for the state champion Vikings, Lopez was selected to the All-State first team in lacrosse . She also contributed to Cape Henlopen's field hockey state championship.
42. Grace Slapcinsky, sr., Caravel
Slapcinsky was selected to the girls soccer Top XI team and earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors as a member of Caravel's Division II championship team.
41. Allie Phillips, jr., Charter of Wilmington
Phillips won the 200-yard individual medley and swam on Charter’s winning 400 free relay at the swimming state meet . She also placed third in the 100 butterfly and was a member of Charter’s second-place medley relay.
40. Baylie Phillips, sr., Delmar
Phillips earned first team All-State honors in field hockey as a key member of Delmar's Division II championship team. She is committed to Appalachian State.
39. Sawyer Brockstedt, jr., Tower Hill
Brockstedt finished second in the girls golf championship at 1-under 141.
38. Gracie Clark, so., Caesar Rodney
Clark reached the first singles state championship match and lost to Tower Hill's Ava Emrich 6-2, 6-4. She lost only four games in the tennis state tournament on the path to the final match.
37. Claire Fowler, sr., Ursuline
Fowler earned first team All-State honors in lacrosse, leading Ursuline to a 10-6 record. She is committed to Saint Joseph's.
36. Katie Payne, jr., Tatnall
A key member of Tatnall's state championship cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field teams, Payne is fourth on the state all-time performance list in the 1,600 (a converted 4:50.92 mile) and fifth in the 800 (2:10.62). She ran on Tatnall's winning 4xmile relay at Nike Indoor Nationals .
35. Zayda Rocke, jr., Caravel
The Maryland commit helped Caravel to its fourth straight softball state title. Rocke, a catcher, earned second team All-State honors .
34. Charlotte Wilkinson, jr., Tatnall
A first team All-State lacrosse selection, Wilkinson led the Hornets to a 14-1 regular season and the state championship game . She also earned All-American honors.
33. Elce Walsh, jr., Padua
After winning the pole vault at the indoor state meet, Walsh outdoors swept the event at the New Castle County, state and Meet of Champions meets. Her personal best of 12-1 , achieved at the Catholic Conference championships on April 30, ranks third on the state all-time performance list.
32. Sophia Holgado, sr., Padua
The Virginia Tech commit finished second in Division I at the cross country state meet and ran on Padua's state record 4x400 and 4x800. She is tenth on the state all-time performance list in the 1,600 (4:51.82) and seventh in the 3,200 (10:31.51).
31. Haley Grygo, sr., Caravel
A first-team All-State third basemen , Grygo helped lead Caravel to its fourth straight softball state title .
30. Anna Lopez, sr., Cape Henlopen
As goalkeeper, Lopez led a Cape Henlopen lacrosse team that allowed only 57 goals in 13 games against Delaware opponents. Lopez was the first-team All-State goalie . She is committed to William and Mary.
29. Takyla Davis, sr., Sussex Central
The first team All-State shortstop , Davis helped lead Sussex Central to a 19-4 season. The Golden Knights reached the championship game of the state tournament. Davis is committed to Arizona State.
28. Shelby Manlove, jr., Sussex Academy
Manlove led Sussex Academy lacrosse to a 13-5 season and a semifinal appearance in the DIAA tournament. She is committed to Richmond.
27. Halle Geiger, sr., Smyrna
The Drexel commit was selected as the first team All-State goalie in field hockey after helping Smyrna to the Division I championship game .
26. Elaina Millaway, jr., Delmarva Christian
One of the region's top beach volleyball players, Millaway earned first team All-State honors indoors at the high school level for the second straight year. Millaway has committed to play beach volleyball at Florida Gulf Coast.
25. Alyssa Napier, jr., Conrad
A dual-sport athlete in the winter, Napier won the 50-yard freestyle and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly at the swimming state meet . Three weeks earlier, she finished third in the 400 meters and seventh in the 200 meters at the indoor track and field state meet . In the fall, Napier finished ninth in Division II at the cross country state meet.
24. Taylor Holly, sr., Saint Mark's
The state's top libero, Holly earned first-team All-State honors for the third consecutive year. The University of Delaware commit led the Spartans to a 14-1 regular season record.
23. Lily Phillips, jr., Saint Mark's
Phillips was selected to the girls soccer Top XI team and earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors. She is committed to Penn State.
22. Brynn Crandell, sr., Indian River
Crandell ran Delaware's fastest cross country 5k of the fall in a win at the Joe O'Neill Invitational . She won her third straight Division II title before competing on Indian River's swim team and outdoor track and field teams. The University of Delaware commit's cross country 5k personal best of 17:28.9 is fifth in state history .
21. Bree Moffett, so., Smyrna
Max Field Hockey ranked Moffett in the top ten nationally in the class of 2026 . She helped Smyrna field hockey to the Division I championship game and earned first team All-State honors.
20. Georgia Colborn, sr., Charter of Wilmington
Colborn won the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke and anchored the Force’s winning 400-yard freestyle relay at the swimming state meet . She ended her high school career with nine state championships, including four consecutive wins in the 100 butterfly and three 100 back titles.
19. Arianna Montgomery, so., Tatnall
Montgomery collected three first-place medals in Division II at the state meet : the 100 hurdles, long jump and 4x100. A week earlier, Montgomery anchored Tatnall's state record 4x100 at the New Castle County championships .
18. Taylor Brown, fr., Ursuline
Brown helped lead Ursuline to its 17th basketball state championship. The freshman, already heavily recruited by the nation's top colleges, scored 16 points in the championship game against Caravel .
17. Ava Emrich, jr., Tower Hill
In her second straight year playing in the girls first singles state championship match, Emrich defeated Caesar Rodney sophomore Gracie Clark 6-2, 6-4. Tower Hill also won the team title , outscoring Archmere 26-23.
16. Anna Richardson, sr., Smyrna
Richardson had 20 kills in the Eagles' 3-1 volleyball state championship win over Ursuline, the first in school history . Richardson earned Player of the Year honors and is committed to West Chester.
15. Madge Layfield, sr., Sussex Central
The softball Player of the Year , Layfield finished her high school career with 1,045 strikeouts, including 275 this year. She helped the Golden Knights finish 19-4 and reach the championship game of the DIAA Softball Tournament before falling to Caravel 2-0. Layfield has signed with Central Arkansas.
14. Abby Downin, so., Tatnall
Downin swept the 800 at the New Castle County, state and Meet of Champions meets before placing eighth in the event at New Balance Nationals with the state's fastest-ever time, 2:06.70. Downin finished second in Division II at the cross country state meet and helped Tatnall advance to Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon. In the weeks after Tatnall won the indoor team state championship, Downin set the indoor 800 state record and ran on the Hornets' Nike Indoor Nationals-winning 4xmile relay .
13. Sarah Lydic, sr., Indian River
The Wake Forest commit won the girls golf state championship , shooting a 6-under 136 at Maple Dale Country Club. Lydic also won the tournament at Maple Dale as a freshman in 2021 when boys and girls competed together for the individual title.
12. Desiree Zapata, sr., Smyrna
Zapata earned All-Mid-Atlantic region and All-State honors as the leading goal scorer for the Eagles soccer team. She is committed to Villanova.
11. Grace Wiggins, sr., Cape Henlopen
A first team All-State player in field hockey and lacrosse , Wiggins contributed to Cape Henlopen state championships in both sports. Her first-quarter goal against Smyrna in the Division I field hockey title game held up as the game's only score. She is committed to play field hockey at Richmond.
10. Juliana Balon, sr., Padua
In February, Balon became the first in the last two decades to win four individual events at the one-day indoor state meet . Outdoors, she won the Division I 100 and 200 and won the 100, 200 and long jump at Meet of Champions. Heading to Miami in the fall, Balon finished her high school career with 14 indoor state meet gold medals, 10 D-I titles in the 100, 200, 400 and long jump and seven wins at Meets of Champions.
9. Molly Flanagan, sr., Padua
Flanagan set an 800 state meet record, running 2:08.71 last month at Dover High, but her greatest achievements came with her teammates. With Flanagan as its anchor, Padua won an indoor national championship in the 4x800 and ran the state's fastest-ever 4x400, 4x800 and distance medley relays indoors. In the spring, Padua broke the 40-year-old 4x400 state record and placed third in the 4x800 at New Balance Nationals with the state's fastest-ever time. Flanagan is committed to Richmond.
8. Simone Cooper, sr., Middletown
Cooper not only repeated as the Division I and Meet of Champions winner in the shot put and discus, she won every discus competition she entered this spring until New Balance Nationals. Cooper, who earned state MVP honors alongside teammate Isabelle Walsh , ends her high school career second on the state all-time performance list in shot put and discus. She is committed to Maryland.
7. Isabelle Walsh, sr., Middletown
The Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year , Walsh ran the fastest 800 and 1,600 times in state history on the short track and won both events at the indoor state meet. Outdoors, she ran the second-fastest times in state history across 1,600 and 3,200 meters, won Division I titles at both distances and shared MVP honors with teammate Simone Cooper . The Villanova commit finished second in D-I at the cross country state meet.
6. Louise Rishko, sr., Cape Henlopen
The girls lacrosse Player of the Year, Rishko led Cape Henlopen to an 18-0 season in which the Vikings won games against in-state opponents by an average of 14.2 goals. The Virginia Tech commit also earned first team All-State honors in field hockey as a member of Cape's Division I championship-winning team.
5. Dru Moffett, sr., Smyrna
The Division I Player of the Year, Moffett led Smyrna to the D-I field hockey state championship game . Moffett is ranked in the top ten nationally in the class of 2024 by Max Field Hockey . She is committed to Michigan.
4. Jordyn Hollamon, jr., Delmar
Hollamon scored the first four goals as Delmar defeated Newark Charter 6-0 to win the Division II field hockey championship, the Wildcats' eighth consecutive title. The Division II Player of the Year , Hollamon is ranked in the top ten nationally in the class of 2025 by Max Field Hockey . Hollamon also earned second team All-State honors in softball as a shortstop. She is committed to Maryland.
3. Gabby Riley, sr., Middletown
The soccer Player of the Year , Riley more than doubled Middletown's career goals record, tallying 138 goals after finding the back of the net 54 times this season. She had at least one goal or assist in every game as the Cavaliers went 18-0 and won a second straight DIAA Division I championship . Riley is committed to the University of Delaware.
2. Jezelle Banks, fr., Ursuline
Banks deposited the game-winning free throw with two seconds remaining in Ursuline's state championship game win over Caravel. She is ranked as the fifth-best player in the class of 2027 in ESPN's HoopGurlz recruiting rankings and is a team captain in the new Overtime Select summer league, which brings together the nation's top high school players in Atlanta, Georgia.
1. Rachel Bockrath, sr., Brandywine
Already the owner of the 50-yard freestyle pool record at the University of Delaware's Rawstrom Natatorium, Bockrath had three state-record swims there in February at the DIAA Swimming and Diving Championships . She competed in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Indianapolis, Indiana this month after graduating with eight individual state titles. Bockrath is committed to Ohio State.
