NHL free agency tracker 2024: Live updates on news, rumors, signings and trades

The 2023-24 NHL season is in the books. The 2024 NHL Draft is in the rearview. Now it's time for the roster shuffle ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Free agency is set to begin at noon ET Monday, July 1, kicking off the period in which players can start signing with new teams.

There are no shortage of stars available in free agency. Sam Reinhart, Jake Guentzel, Steven Stamkos and Elias Lindholm are among the most prominent names that will be on the open market.

And that's just the players without contracts. There's also enticing trade candidates, including Mitch Marner, Patrik Laine and Martin Necas.

Blackhawks agree to two-year deal with TJ Brodie

Former Maple Leafs defenseman TJ Brodie found a new home on Monday, inking a two-year, $3.75 million deal with the Blackhawks. He recorded one goal and 25 assists for Toronto in 2024

Oilers to resign Mattias Janmark

Edmonton retained the services of center Mattias Janmark, who recorded four goals and eight assists in 71 games with the Oilers last season. "The Janitor" nabbed a long-term deal, inking a three-year contract with an AAV of $1.5 million.

Oilers add Jeff Skinner

Jeff Skinner is joining the Oilers on a one-year, $3 million contract. Skinner was bought out by the Sabres on Saturday with three years remaining on his deal.

Jets ink Colin Miller

The Jets are keeping Colin Miller. After acquiring him from the Devils at the 2024 deadline, Winnipeg signs him to a two-year deal with an AAV of $1.5 million.

Penguins sign Blake Lizotte

The Penguins add some speed to their forward unit, signing Blake Lizotte to a two-year deal. It carries an AAV of $1.85 million.

Wild sign Jacob Middleton to extension

Minnesota solidifies a piece of its blue line for the future, handing Jacob Middleton a four-year extension worth a total of $17.4 million. The 28-year-old had one year left on his contract.

Canadiens hand Juraj Slafkovsky massive extension

Montreal is betting on Juraj Slafkovsky. The Canadiens hand the 2022 No. 1 overall pick a massive extension — eight years, $60.8 million, with an AAV of $7.6 million. The 20-year-old winger had 50 points in his second season at the pro level.

Red Wings re-sign Christian Fischer

Christian Fischer re-signs with the Red Wings on a one-year deal worth $1.125 million. The forward recorded 19 points in 79 games for Detroit last season.

Predators re-sign Alex Carrier

Alexandre Carrier is staying in Nashville. The Predators sign the defenseman to a three-year contract with a $3.75 AAV.

Maple Leafs sign Jani Hakanpaa

Toronto isn't done adding on defense. The Leafs reunite newly signed Chris Tanev with his Stars teammate, Jani Hakanpaa. It's a two-year, $3 million deal for Hakanpaa.

Sharks sign Alexander Wennberg

San Jose adds a center to its forward group, bringing in Alexander Wennberg on a two-year, $10 million deal.

Avalanche sign Calvin de Haan

The Avalanche add to their blue line, signing Calvin de Haan to a one-year contract.

Hurricanes sign Sean Walker, Shayne Gostibehere

Carolina lost Brett Pesce and Brady Skjei to free agency. In their place, the Hurricanes sign Sean Walker and bring back Shayne Gostibehere. Walker gets a five-year, $18 million deal, while Gostibehere gets a three-year, $9.6 million deal.

Stars re-sign Nils Lundqvist

After not handing him a qualifying offer, the Stars elect to sign defenseman Nils Lundqvist to a one-year, $1.25 million deal. The young defenseman saw limited minutes on the third pairing for Dallas.

Oilers re-sign Corey Perry

The Oilers are running it back with Corey Perry, handing the veteran forward a one-year, $1.4 million deal. He signed with Edmonton halfway through last season after starting the season with the Blackhawks, but was waived for an off-ice incident with a team employee.

Hurricanes bring in Tyson Jost

Carolina brings in a young, cheap forward in Tyson Jost, signing him to a one-year, $775,000 deal.

Rangers sign Sam Carrick

New York is adding to its bottom-six for the forward group. The Rangers sign Sam Carrick to a three-year contract, carrying a $1 million cap hit.

Red Wings sign Jack Campbell

The Red Wings are giving themselves options in the crease. After his buyout with the Oilers, Jack Campbell signs a one-year deal worth $775,000 to go to Motor City.

Penguins trade Reilly Smith to Rangers, sign Anthony Beauvillier

For the second consecutive offseason, Reilly Smith is being traded. Just a year after the Penguins acquired him from the Golden Knights, Pittsburgh sends him to New York in a deal with the Rangers. The Penguins get a second-round and a fifth-round pick, while retaining 25% of the salary. Pittsburgh also is signing Anthony Beauvillier to a one-year deal worth $1.25 million.

Islanders bring in Anthony Duclair

The Islanders make their first signing of the summer, bringing in Anthony Duclair on a four-year deal. The contract has a $4.5 million AAV.

Sabres sign Jason Zucker

The Sabres add Jason Zucker to the team on a one-year deal worth $5 million. The veteran winger split time between the Coyotes and the Predators, tallying 32 points in 69 games.

Oilers sign Josh Brown

Edmonton adds to its defensive group, signing Josh Brown to a three-year deal worth $1 million a year.

Stars sign Matt Dumba, Ilya Lyubushkin

Dallas adds a puck-moving defender to its blue line, signing Matt Dumba to a two-year deal carrying an AAV of $3.75 million. That is followed by the signing of Ilya Lyubushkin, a more stay-at-home, physical option. His deal is for two years at $3.25 million a season.

Flames sign Ryan Lomberg

Ryan Lomberg is headed to Calgary. After winning the Stanley Cup with the Panthers, the fourth-line forechecker signs a two-year deal with the Flames.

Kraken land Chandler Stephenson

The Kraken have a new center to deploy. Seattle lands one of the biggest free agents of the offseason, signing Chandler Stephenson to a seven-year deal worth $6.25 million a season. The two-way center has two Stanley Cups to his name, most recently winning in 2023 with the Golden Knights.

Star sign Casey DeSmith

Dallas solidifies its goaltending crease by giving Casey DeSmith a three-year deal. The former Canucks goaltender should act as backup to Jake Oettinger after the Stars lost Scott Wedgewood to the Predators.

Devils re-sign Stefan Noesen

The Devils give out a three-year deal to forward Stefan Noesen, keeping him in New Jersey.

Penguins give Matt Grzelcyk contract

From one yellow and black team, to another. Former Bruins defenseman Matt Grzelcyk is heading to Pittsburgh, as the Penguins sign the puck-moving defenseman to a one-year deal.

Predators sign Scott Wedgewood

Nashville has its backup for Juuse Saros. The Predators sign Scott Wedgewood to a two-year deal.

Kings give deal to Warren Foegele

Warren Foegele, who was a key bottom-six forward for the Oilers on Edmonton's Stanley Cup run, is signing with Los Angeles on a three-year deal.

Hurricanes sign Jaccob Slavin to extension

The Hurricanes aren't wasting any time signing Jaccob Slavin long term. On the first day he is eligible for an extension, Carolina hands him an eight-year deal with an AAV of $6.5 million. The 30-year-old has been their top defender for quite some time now, and remains a key part of their defensive unit.

Senators bring in Michael Amadio

The Golden Knights are losing another free agent, this time, it's Michael Amadio. The forward is signing a three-year deal with the Senators. His AAV is at $2.6 million on the new deal.

Wild sign Yakov Trenin

Yakov Trenin is staying in the Central Division. After he was traded at the deadline from the Predators to the Avalanche, the power forward is inking a four-year deal with the Wild.

Stars re-sign Matt Duchene

Matt Duchene is staying in Dallas. After a sensational first year with the Stars, the forward is re-upping on a one-year deal to give it another go with the team.

Red Wings sink Cam Talbot

Cam Talbot is on the move again. The veteran goaltender is heading to Detroit on a two-year deal carrying an AAV of $2.5 million. It gives the Red Wings a tandem of Talbot and potentially Ville Husso.

Jonathan Drouin returns to Avalanche

After a successful season playing alongside junior teammate Nathan MacKinnon, Jonathan Drouin is running it back with Colorado on a one-year deal.

Utah signs Kevin Stenlund

Utah adds a Stanley Cup champion to its forward group by signing Kevin Stenlund to a two-year deal. The center was a fourth-line option on the Panthers, who also played on the penalty kill.

Maple Leafs sign Anthony Stolaz, re-sign Matt Murray

Toronto shores up its goaltending situation behind Joseph Woll by signing Anthoyn Stolarz to a two-year deal, while re-upping Matt Murray for a year. Stolarz put together an excellent 2023-24 season as the backup to Sergei Bobrovsky on the Panthers.

Kings bring in Joel Edmundson

Los Angeles is adding to its blue line by signing veteran defender Joel Edmundson to a four-year deal worth $3.8 million a year. The 2019 Stanley Cup champion played for both the Capitals and Maple Leafs last season.

Hurricanes ink William Carrier

The Hurricanes add more to their forward group by signing William Carrier to a six-year deal with an AAV of $2 million. That's a lot of term for the bottom-six winger, but he brings stability at both ends of the ice.

Blue Jackets land Sean Monahan

Columbus has a ton of young centers, but the team adds an older option to the group by signing Sean Monahan to a five-year deal worth $5.5 million a season. The forward excelled with the Jets after he was acquired at the deadline, and should give the Blue Jackets a temporary, top-six option while their young centers develop.

Canucks sign Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen

Vancouver adds speed to its forward group by signing Jake DeBrusk to a seven-year deal worth $5.5 million per season. He should be a solid top-six option for the defending Pacific Division champs. The Canucks also bring in Danton Heinen on a two-year deal worth $2.25 million a season.

Oilers sign Viktor Arvidsson

Edmonton addresses its need for depth scoring by signing Viktor Arvidsson to a two-year deal with $8 million in total. Arvidsson played just 18 games last season as a result of injuries, and gets a short-term, prove-it deal with the defending Western Conference champions.

Bruins bring in Nikita Zadorov

Nikita Zadorov is also headed to Boston. The towering defender, known for his physicality, lands a massive deal, signing for six years with an AAV of $5 million. It gives the Bruins a bit more grit on the back end.

Capitals ink Matt Roy

After acquiring Jakob Chychrun, the Capitals make another move to their defensive unit, signing Matt Roy to a six-year deal worth $5.75 million a year. The defenseman leaves the Kings as one of the more underrated defenders on the market, and should be a valuable piece for Washington looking to make another run in the Alex Ovechkin era.

Brett Pesce, Brendan Dillon landing with Devils

As expected, Brett Pesce is a Devil. The former Hurricanes defender signs a six-year deal with New Jersey, immediately giving them a strong, two-way defender to its blue line. In addition, Brendan Dillon signs a three-year deal worth $4 million a season, giving the team two veterans on a young blue line.

Senators sign David Perron

David Perron is going to Ottawa. The veteran scorer lands a two-year deal with the Senators, giving their group leadership in the locker room and a scoring threat on offense.

Bruins sign Elias Lindholm

Was there a more predictable signing than Elias Lindholm to the Bruins? The two-way forward becomes Boston's new No. 1 center, signing a seven-year deal at $7.75 million a season. Lindholm was traded from the Flames to the Canucks at the trade deadline, but did not fit in as expected with Vancouver. A year after his retirement, Boston lands its replacement for Patrice Bergeron.

Predators land trio of Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, Brady Skjei

What a day for the Predators. Nashville brings in three big names on the first day of free agency, landing Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei. Stamkos signs for four years at $8 million a year, Marchessault gets five years at $5.5 million a year, and Skjei inks for seven years at $7 million per season. It immediately boosts Nashville's scoring, which was an issue last season.

Blackhawks sign Pat Maroon, Craig Smith, Laurent Brossoit

Chicago is bringing in more veterans. After signing Alec Martinez and Teuvo Teravainen, the Blackhawks also add fourth-liner Pat Maroon, depth winger Craig Smith and goaltender Laurent Brossoit.

Flames sign Anthony Mantha

Anthony Mantha is heading to Calgary. The Flames bring in the big winger on a one-year deal. Mantha split last season between the Capitals and the Golden Knights.

Maple Leafs sign Oliver Ekman-Larsson

Toronto adds a recent Stanley Cup champion to its roster, signing Oliver Ekman-Larsson to a four-year deal carrying an AAV of $3.5 million. The puck-moving defenseman carved out a role on the third pairing for the Panthers last season.

Blackhawks bringing back Teuvo Teravainen

Teuvo Teravainen started his career in Chicago, and now is heading back to the Windy City for a second stint. The Blackhawks are bringing the winger in on a three-year, $16.2 million contract .

Capitals land Jakob Chychrun in trade with Senators

The Capitals make a big swing to add to their blue line, acquiring defenseman Jakob Chychrun from the Senators for Nick Jensen and a third-round pick. Chychrun didn't work out quite as expected in Ottawa, and has one year left on his deal that carries a reasonable $4.6 million cap hit. He is coming off a 41-point campaign in his first full season as a Senator.

Hurricanes re-sign Jordan Martinook

A large part of the Carolina locker room is staying in Raleigh, as the Hurricanes re-sign forward Jordan Martinook to a three-year deal. It carries an AAV of $3.05 million.

Sabres sign Sam Lafferty

Buffalo adds to its bottom-six forward group, signing center Sam Lafferty to a two-year deal. The forward plays with speed and should be a complimentary piece for a Sabres club looking to finally get into the playoffs.

Tyler Toffoli signs with Sharks

San Jose adds a veteran scorer to its forward group, inking Tyler Toffoli to a four-year contract that carries a $6 million AAV. The winger bounced between teams over the last few seasons, including a trade deadline move from the Devils to the Jets this spring. Now, Toffoli gets some stability and should be a key locker room piece for a Sharks team looking to eventually get out of their rebuild.

Predators tied to both Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault

Nashville is looking to make major moves this summer. The team is reportedly the frontrunners in both the Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault sweepstakes. The Predators made the playoffs this past season as the second wild-card team in the Western Conference, so landing those two big splashes would put them in contender status.

Kasper Kapanen re-signs with Blues

Kasperi Kapanen is still in St. Louis. The forward is re-signing with the team on a one-year, $1 million deal.

Brandon Montour expected to sign long-term deal with Kraken

The Kraken are expected to sign Stanley Cup champion defenseman Brandon Montour to a seven-year deal, carrying an AAV of $7.14 million. It gives Seattle a boost to its blue line, while the offensive defenseman gets a pay grade. He was one of the Panthers that the team was expected to sign elsewhere this summer.

Erik Johnson stays with Flyers

Veteran defenseman Erik Johnson is staying in Philadelphia, signing a one-year deal with the Flyers. He was acquired by the team at the deadline from the Sabres.

Capitals re-sign Connor McMichael to two-year contract

Washington takes care of one of its young centers, signing Connor McMichael to a two-year extension.

Maple Leafs sign Chris Tanev to six-year deal

After acquiring his rights from the Stars, the Maple Leafs announce they signed defenseman Chris Tanev to a six-year, $27 million contract. It carries an AAV of $4.5 million. Tanev is a top-four minute muncher who excels in his own zone. He finished tied for third in blocked shots in the league last season.

Maple Leafs extend Joseph Woll for three years

Toronto takes care of a tidy piece of business, locking in goaltender Joseph Woll to a three-year extension . The young netminder battled for the top spot in the Leafs' crease last season, recording a 2.94 GAA and a .907 SV%.

Blackhawks sign Alec Martinez to one-year contract

The Blackhawks are adding a veteran presence to the locker room and the blue line, signing Alec Martinez to a one-year deal, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie . The three-time Stanley Cup champion played 55 games for the Golden Knights last season.

Dmitry Kulikov re-signs with Panthers

The Panthers are trying to run it back with a majority of their free agents. After re-signing Sam Reinhart, the team also is re-signing defenseman Dmitry Kulikov to a four-year, $4.6 million extension.

Kulikov played a third-pairing role for Florida, recording 20 points in 76 games for the Stanley Cup champs.

Connor Brown re-signs with Oilers

Connor Brown is staying in Edmonton. The bottom-six winger is signing a one-year, $1 million contract to remain on the Oilers.

Brown had 12 points in 71 games for Edmonton this past season.

Lightning officially sign Jake Guentzel to seven-year deal

The Lightning traded a third-round pick to the Hurricanes for Jake Guentzel's free-agent rights. That signaled Tampa Bay was serious about signing a long-term extension with the 30-goal scorer from last season. The team agreed to a seven-year deal with Guentzel worth $9 million annually, per Elliotte Friedman .

Guentzel has 219 goals in 503 NHL games and has never had fewer than 16 in a season. The 29-year-old should help reignite Tampa Bay's offense, which might lose Steven Stamkos during the offseason.

Blackhawks sign Tyler Bertuzzi to four-year deal

Tyler Bertuzzi enjoyed a 21-goal season with the Maple Leafs last season. His performance earned him a four-year deal with the Blackhawks worth $5.5 million annually, per The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta .

Bertuzzi won't turn 30 until February and has four 20-goal seasons over his career. He should add a scoring punch to Chicago's offense, which averaged a league-low 2.17 goals per game.

Patrick Kane signs one-year extension with Red Wings

Kane signed with the Red Wings during the 2023 NHL offseason and enjoyed a strong season, scoring 20 goals with 27 assists in 50 games. He is returning to Detroit on a one-year deal, as the team announced late Sunday.

Sam Reinhart inks eight-year deal to stay with Panthers

The Panthers retained one of the stars from their Stanley Cup run, as Reinhart re-upped in Florida on an eight-year deal worth $8.625 million, per NHL insider Elliotte Friedman . Reinhart had 57 goals during the 2023-24 NHL season, including a league-best 27 on the power play. The 28-year-old added 10 postseason goals to his docket en route to the Panthers' Stanley Cup win.

Max Domi returns to Toronto on four-year deal

Domi is staying put with the Maple Leafs. On Sunday, he posted a video on X indicating he is not leaving Toronto. Later in the day, he reportedly agreed to a four-year, $15 million contract to stay in Toronto, per the NHL .

Last offseason, the 29-year-old forward signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Maple Leafs, landing him with his seventh different NHL franchise in nine years in the league.

Oilers waive Jack Campbell before free agency

Veteran goalie Jack Campbell will be hitting the market earlier than expected. The Oilers waived Campbell on Sunday, according to the NHL .

Campbell signed a five-year, $25 million deal with Edmonton in 2022, but now the Oilers will take on dead salary cap space in each of the next six years. In 41 games (39 starts), Campbell posted a 22-13 record with a 3.53 GAA and .886 save percentage with the Oilers.

Jake Guentzel rights traded to Lightning

Guentzel can be a free agent Monday, but the Lightning are already making a play to show how interested they are in the former Hurricanes center. The Lightning traded a 2025 third-round pick to Carolina on Sunday in exchange for the star's rights, according to the NHL .

By paying a premium to acquire Guentzel, the Lightning will be able to negotiate with the eight-year NHL veteran on a new contract before free agency officially opens.
