If all goes as planned, Miami Central 4-star wide receiver Naeshaun Montgomery will not be committing this summer. He initially hoped to be off the market before then but has now changed his timeline.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking , a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Montgomery is the No. 36 wide receiver and No. 244 prospect overall.

“I’m going to wait a little bit longer. I’ve been talking to my family and I’m going to wait longer,” Montgomery told Gators Online. “To be honest, it will be whenever it feels right. I think it’s going to be after my first or second game at the latest though.”

One of the programs in the running for Montgomery’s services are the Florida Gators. That comes after a handful of strong experiences in Gainesville, including an official visit during the weekend of May 31.

“Everything’s been really good with them,” said Montgomery. “I talk to DJ Lagway here and there. That’s my biggest thing because that would be my quarterback if I did go to Florida . I definitely have to be in touch with him. Me and the coaches talk all the time, so I don’t really have to worry about that.”

The message from the Florida Gators’ signal caller has been simple and straight to the point.

“He really makes it clear that he wants me to be receiver one for him,” Montgomery said of Lagway. “I’ve definitely watched a few of his clips and he can for sure run. He has a strong arm too.”

The Gators are passing the test in the communication category

During the month of June, Montgomery took official visits to Florida and Penn State. LSU was initially on the schedule too, but those plans fell through. He still lists LSU as a top contender, along with Alabama and Florida State, but Florida is likely most consistent.

“Shoot, I talk to them every day,” said Montgomery. “I really talk to (assistant wide receivers) coach (David) Doeker , (wide receivers) coach Billy Gonzales and coach (Billy) Napier . I talk to almost everybody on the staff. Their main thing is I should come to the Gators and bring the team back.”

Another trip to the Swamp is in the works

Since Billy Napier has been at Florida, the Gators have rolled out the Grill in the Ville recruiting event. It typically takes place the final weekend of July and features numerous blue-chip prospects.

As of now, Montgomery expects to be in attendance for the event. He also plans to take more official visits during the season, although dates are not scheduled.

“I really have a bond with all five schools there. Those are the ones that stand out,” said Montgomery.

According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine , Florida is trending heavily for Naeshaun Montgomery. Those leading odds are approaching 90 percent behind multiple RPM picks.
