Woman flown to hospital after crashing into, being dragged by semi in Darke County

UPDATE @ 4:00 p.m.:

One person was seriously injured in a crash in Darke County Monday morning.

Darke County dispatchers confirmed the crash was reported shortly before 10 a.m. in the area of US-127 and Children’s Home-Bradford Road.

Investigators said Ashely Tellone, 31, of Piqua, was going eastbound on Children’s Home-Bradford in a Toyota Rav-4 and failed to yield to oncoming traffic at the intersection.

Her vehicle hit a semi that was going southbound on State Route 127. On Monday afternoon, the Darke County Sheriff’s Office said Tellone’s Toyota was pinned under the semi’s trailer and dragged over 100 feet.

Crews on the scene had to use heavy equipment wreckers to lift the semi’s trailer during their efforts to get her out.

She was flown to Miami Valley Hospital with suspected serious injuries.

The driver of the semi, Richard McWhorter III, 30 of Ansonia, was not injured.

The coroner’s office and Ohio State Highway Patrol were on the scene to assist in the investigation.
