'We try to work them early': Goat show opened Marion Co. Fair in cool temps Monday morning

A cool breeze of only 60 degrees blew Monday morning as Logan Isler worked magic with his electric shears.

The 16-year-old was focused on trimming Nico, a 5-month-old market wether goat his cousin, Jacob Isler, 17, was getting ready to show during the first day of the Marion County Fair.

The fair opened Monday morning and runs through Saturday night.

The afternoon high has been forecast in the mid 80s every day the rest of the week.

That's a 20-degree temperature swing the cousins, who live near the village of Prospect, have been preparing their goats for all spring.

"We try to work them early in the morning or late at night to avoid the heat," Jacob Isler said.

Even when temperatures seem cool for people, the goats would prefer not exercising too much.

"Once you get them moving, they get hot," Jacob Isler said. "You want to get them used to the heat as much as you can."
