Highlander Reboot: New Film From John Wick Director Starts Filming Soon

John Wick director Chad Stahelski has an upcoming slate as long as a grocery list, but the next project flying full steam ahead is his Highlander reboot, as per Collider , who reports that cameras begin rolling in January.

Currently soaking up the sun at the Mediterranean Film Festival in Malta, Stahelski told Collider that he's jetting straight from there to Scotland on a recce.

"We start shooting in January in Scotland, that's why I go right after I leave. I go to Scotland on Monday to do the final location scout," Stahelski revealed.

Known primarily for his prolific career in stunts, Stahelski notes the switch in worlds for his upcoming film, which follows "an immortal Scottish swordsman [who] faces off with other immortal warriors in order to obtain a coveted ability", as per the synopsis from IMDb.

"Swords, to me, are of one of the trickiest things to do in fight scenes," Stahelski shared with Collider. He noted the digital aspect of muzzle flashes in working with firearms, meaning "we don't have to worry about hurting anyone".

"Swords, it's a little trickier because now I got to trust that my actors are swinging this piece of metal at each other, and hopefully not gonna take their eyes out or stab somebody," Stahelski says. "Every sword movie, somebody gets poked or hit on the head or something like that. It takes a little bit more skill and a little bit more dedication."

The only confirmed cast member at present is Henry Cavill, who will play the film's lead.
