YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Reports said police early Friday evening arrested a man on gun charges after they found a handgun in his car that had a switch that would allow it to fire on automatic.

Brandon Gallo, 26, is expected to be arraigned later Monday in municipal court on charges of unlawful possession of dangerous ordnance, a first-degree misdemeanor; improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony; and being a felon in possession of a firearm, a third-degree felony.

He was booked into the Mahoning County jail after he was arrested about 6:55 p.m. Friday when police answered a fight call in the 1200 block of Hillman Street.

Reports said Gallo was standing outside by his car when police arrived and told them he was moving things from a nearby home. He said he found a gun in the home and put it in his car because he did not want the gun around his children.

Reports said the gun belonged to another man who he did not know, but the woman who lives in the home told police she had no idea the gun was there.

Police took Gallo into custody after finding out he is not allowed to have a gun because of a 2013 conviction for kidnapping in juvenile court. When his car was searched, police found eight magazines of ammunition and over $1,000 in cash, which consisted of 997 $1 bills and the rest was in $2 bills.

Reports also said the gun police found had a switch that would allow it to fire on automatic.
