    Study ranks Tri-State middle of pack on energy costs

    HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – With super hot or cold temperatures, it is natural for those that want to turn on their air conditioning or heater to make themselves more comfortable.

    That comfort can also come with a cost with the potential for super high energy costs that could eat into one’s wallets.

    To better understand the impact of energy on finances based on where one lives and how much usage one uses, WalletHub conducted a study to compare the total monthly energy bills in every state.

    Their study concluded that the Tri-State ranked around mid-pack with Indiana at 20th highest cost, Illinois 24th highest and Kentucky 34th highest.

    • Indiana – 20th
      • Total energy cost – $645
      • Monthly electricity cost – $156 (19th)
      • Monthly natural gas cost – $89 (36th)
      • Monthly motor fuel cost – $194 (6th)
      • Monthly home heating oil cost – $206 (27th)
    • Illinois – 24th
      • Total energy cost – $622
      • Monthly electricity cost – $122 (43rd)
      • Monthly natural gas cost – $129 (7th)
      • Monthly motor fuel cost – $146 (39th)
      • Monthly home heating oil cost – $225 (22nd)
    • Kentucky – 34th
      • Total energy cost – $556
      • Monthly electricity cost – $163 (16th)
      • Monthly natural gas cost – $94 (30th)
      • Monthly motor fuel cost – $172 (16th)
      • Monthly home heating oil cost – $127 (35th)
