DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WJMN) — Crews on two boats in Little Bay de Noc were rescued over the weekend, according to the Delta County Sheriff’s Office.

The DCSO said the first call for help came in on Saturday just half an hour before midnight. Dispatch told first responders that there was a disabled boater about a mile off-shore in the bay, near the outlet of the Escanaba River.

Deputies were able to find the 14-foot aluminum boat with three passengers on board. They learned the engine had died, and the boat was taking on water due to the high winds and waves. As the three were getting on to the rescue boat, their vessel capsized.

Despite that, the passengers were rescued safely and the aluminum boat was towed to shore.

The second rescue happened about 12 hours later, just before noon on Sunday. The sheriff’s office tells us this distress call came from a boater near Peninsula Point, where the caller said the 21-foot bass boat was taking on water and sinking.

When rescuers arrived, deputies found the boat’s lone occupant sitting on the boat’s overturned hull. The person was rescued and the boat was towed back to shore without further incident.
