OPINION: It's time to fix up Hall Boulevard

Hall Boulevard is in terrible condition. ODOT has decided to give it to Washington County in this condition, and ODOT claims no funds, which is probably true.

Unfortunately, they have been taking care of other roads while ignoring Hall Boulevard, and Hall Boulevard has become a Washington County road or soon will be. It is dangerous to walk Hall with some sidewalks on one side or the other, but some places there are no sidewalks. So, the pedestrian is at greater risk as drivers attempt to avoid the potholes, steering around and are usually unaware of the pedestrian at all.

It is sad that Hall Boulevard has been ignored. The funds are low and Hall is low on any list. Since the gasoline tax funds our roads it is time to have all users of roads to help fund. Electric cars use the roads so they should help. All those who do not drive but sanctimoniously claim it is not their problem need to realize that everyone who uses the roads need to be part of the solution. The alternative should be to find another way to get around without using our roads.

Hall Boulevard should be a priority of ODOT, Washington County and the citizens who are forced to drive or walk in unsafe conditions. It is past time for action.
