Demi Moore was recognized by the Yadkin County School Board of Education for her successful completion of a Teacher Aide Apprenticeship through Surry-Yadkin Works on June 3.

At the monthly meeting of the school board, Moore was presented with a Certificate of Apprenticeship Completion from the N.C. Community College System. Additionally, she was presented with an Apprenticeship Journeyworker Certificate, a nationally recognized credential issued by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Moore graduated from Forbush High School in May 2022. She was hired as an apprentice by Yadkin County Schools in August 2022 and was assigned to Yadkinville Elementary School. As a requirement of the apprenticeship, Moore completed an Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation degree and graduated from Surry Community College in May 2024. She has been accepted to Appalachian State University and will begin attending there in the fall of 2024.

Surry-Yadkin Works is a pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship sponsor for Surry and Yadkin counties. By combining forces with Surry Community College, Surry-Yadkin Works is connecting workplaces to the classroom to prepare students for real-world careers.

“Apprenticeships combine on-the-job training and classroom instruction to prepare a highly skilled workforce. Employers and apprentices alike, benefit from this type of structured program. Students receive a paid work-based learning experience while earning nationally recognized credentials. Employers build a well-trained workforce, improve loyalty, and reduce turnover,” said Rachel Hiatt, Director of Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeships for Surry Community College.
