    Escambia County crash injures 2: FHP

    ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — Two people were injured Monday morning in a crash in Escambia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

    FHP troopers responded to the intersection of State Road 97 (Highway 97) and Gibson Road in response to a crash involving a pickup and semi-truck at around 11:40 a.m. on Monday, July 1.

    LOCATION:

    According to an FHP news release, the semi-truck driven by a 62-year-old man from Perdido Beach, Alabama, was traveling north on State Road 97 and turned left onto Gibson Road in front of a pickup driven by a 76-year-old man from Molino, Florida, passing in a lawful passing zone.

    The pickup collided with the left side of the cab of the semi, the release said. The impact caused the pickup to leave the roadway to the left, crashing into the trees, and the semi left the roadway to the right, colliding with a utility pole before stopping on the right shoulder of State Road 97.

    The 76-year-old male driver and 66-year-old female passenger of the pickup were taken to West Florida Hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

    The driver of the semi, who was not injured in the incident, was cited for an improper left turn, the release said.
