Gio Reyna slammed over Luis Suarez request just seconds after USMNT knocked out of Copa America

Giovani Reyna caused controversy when he went souvenir hunting just moments after the United States Men's National Team suffered a devastating defeat at the Copa America .

The USMNT was dumped out of the competition at the earliest possible stage on Monday night - with defeat against Uruguay confirming a group stage exit from the tournament being hosted in the United States. After a slow display at the 2022 World Cup, it was expected that the U.S. would at least make it to the knockout stages of the competition.

But having lost to Panama already, Monday's 1-0 defeat against Uruguay meant they had failed to progress past the group stage, leaving supporters stunned and head coach Gregg Berhalter fearing for his job.

But it didn't seem to be all doom and gloom for everyone involved in the team, as Reyna was spotted making a beeline for iconic forward Luis Suarez minutes after the final whistle blew. The Borussia Dortmund winger, who played the full 90 minutes in an uninspiring display, wanted to swap jerseys with the Inter Miami forward, though not everyone was impressed.

One furious fan posted on X: "[Reyna] should be off the team for this ----. What a soft little man." Another posted: "have some shame you literally lost the biggest game for your country."

Monday night's result will likely spark an inquest within US Soccer as to what went wrong. Unlike previous rosters, Monday's squad was almost-entirely made up of players competing in Europe's top leagues, and had been considered something of a 'golden generation' of talent.

But speaking after the game, US Soccer poster boy Christian Pulisic admitted the team simply hadn't been good enough throughout the tournament. He said: "We had a good start and brought a lot of energy, but at the end of the day just not enough quality.

"I felt like we gave it everything, but we just couldn't find the solution to score." Pulisic's sentiments were echoed by defender Anton Robinson, who conceded: "I think just a lack of quality in the final third. It just felt like it wasn't an even game. They had their chances, we had ours, and when it came to they put theirs away and we didn't. It's really disappointing for us."
