State police investigating drowning incident in Jefferson County

REDWOOD, N.Y. (WWTI) – New York State Police are investigating a drowning incident involving a 23-year-old LaFargeville man in a Redwood-area lake.

State troopers responded around 3:35 a.m. on June 29 to 28786 Butterfield Lake Road in the town of Alexandria for a report of a water rescue.

When officers arrived, they found Alexzander Roberts getting life-saving measures from members of the Thousand Island Emergency Rescue Service. He was transported by TIERS to River Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

A preliminary investigation has determined that Roberts drove a 2024 Jeep Compass into Butterfield Lake at the State boat launch and drowned. An autopsy is scheduled to determine an official cause of death.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
