SUMMERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) -- A man is expected to be OK after he and a Jeep were pulled from a Monroe County pond overnight — but investigators say questions remain about what exactly happened.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, a resident on Lulu Road near S. County Line Highway in Summerfield Twp. called 911 at around 12:05 a.m. Tuesday after hearing someone screaming that they can't swim.

A responding deputy saw a man about 20 feet from shore of the pond and jumped in to rescue him, with help from a flotation device provided by the homeowner.

The man was taken safely to shore then to a hospital to be checked out.

While investigating at the scene, deputies found fresh tire tracks coming from a field directly to the pond.

The man who was rescued wouldn't say if he was driving, and then gave conflicting information as to whether or not anyone else was in the vehicle, the sheriff's office said.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, with help from the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, responded to the scene and recovered an
unoccupied black Jeep Wrangler from the pond.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 734-240-7722.
