High temperatures are continuing to scorch Southern California ahead of Independence Day, and the threat is far from over.

Daily highs in the triple digits are expected in numerous places, with the hottest days beginning on Thursday, July 4, and continuing through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service .

Excessive heat warnings issued for Los Angeles County

In the Antelope Valley, for example, highs on Thursday could hit 115 degrees, which the Antelope Valley Press notes would be a record.
