The former “Chopped Canada” host posted a photo on Instagram early Tuesday of a hand-painted poster that read, “1 Year, 12 Months, 365 Days, 8,760 Hours.”
McDermott, 57, placed a series of sobriety coins, including his one-year chip, as well as a piece of paper with blue tallies on it over the poster.

“Last week was an incredible week of love, hugs and recovery. Thank you to my Sponsor, my Sponsee Brothers and everyone in the fellowship for celebrating my 1 year birthday,” he captioned the post.
The actor gave a “special thanks” to Harmony Place, a drug and alcohol rehab, for “saving [his] life.”

In November 2023, McDermott admitted his addiction had taken such a toll on his marriage to Spelling, 51, that it led to their separation earlier that year.
“Alcohol made me feel good enough. I started feeling good enough until it got to a point where it didn’t –– it ended up in isolation. That’s what it led to and that’s what led to the brokenness and to what happened between me and Tori. I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t live that life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling,” he told the Daily Mail at the time.

McDermott revealed he enrolled in treatment program last summer after he found himself “drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week” and taking “a handful” of prescription medications.
“All Tori’s ever done to this day is want me to be happy and healthy, and I inflicted a lot of damage and pain on that woman,” he reflected.
The “Slasher” star later candidly told Page Six that his addiction was “horrible” before he “surrendered and admitted” he needed help.

“The way I was running my life, the way I was running the show was not right. Not good for anybody — myself, my family and Tori. It was a horrible way to live. So I finally surrendered and asked for help, and I got it,” he told us in March.
McDermott announced he was separating from Spelling in June 2023 after 17 years of marriage.

The estranged couple, whose divorce is ongoing, share five children together : sons Liam, 17, Finn, 11, and Beau, 7, and daughters Stella, 16, and Hattie, 12.
McDermott — who has a 25-year-old son, Jack, with his ex-wife, Mary Jo Eustace — is now dating Lily Calo .
