Piers Morgan Fumes Over BBC Official Euros Broadcast Brutally Mocks Ronaldo, Dubbing Him ‘Misstiano Penaldo’

Piers Morgan took exception to BBC trolling Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo by displaying a disparaging nickname in the middle of a live match.

During Portugal’s match against Slovenia in the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament, Ronaldo missed a go-ahead penalty kick in extra time. The teams failed to score in the second extra period, forcing a penalty kick shootout. Portugal won to advance to the quarterfinals.

Later in the broadcast, someone at BBC got the idea to poke fun at Ronaldo with a nickname popularized on the internet. Fans watching that broadcast may have noticed the name “Misstiano Penaldo” on the screen — a reference to the missed penalty.

Morgan was in disbelief that a network would stoop to that level.

“Who did this?” he asked online. “Why did they think it’s OK to mock a legend of the game like @Cristiano in such a cheap way during a publicly-funded broadcaster’s output of an international tournament? Would the BBC have done that to [Lionel Messi] or any other great? No. So why did they do it to Ronaldo?”
