How The Los Angeles Chargers Can Take Advantage Of CeeDee Lamb Contract Situation

By now, it’s well known that the Los Angeles Chargers are lacking at the wide receiver position. They released the inury-plagued Mike Williams early in the offseason, only to trade away franchise legend Keenan Allen for pennies on the dollar.

This was a way for first-year general manager Joe Hortiz and head coach Jim Harbaugh to remake the roster in their mold.

Despite the great things we’re hearing about rookie second-round pick Ladd McConkey , there is still a major need at wide receiver heading into training camp later this month.

Could this potentially lead to Los Angeles attempting to pull off a blockbuster trade? We’ve already read some rumors about disgruntled San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk, who is aiming for a lucrative long-term deal. To a lesser extent, Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals has come up. However, he’s not going to be moved.

The good news for the Chargers and their fans is that another name could soon become available. CeeDee Lamb is going to holdout from Dallas Cowboys training camp unless they pay him top dollar in an extension. It has led to some speculation about a potential trade.

First off, its seems highly unlikely. Los Angeles and Dallas would have to come to terms on compensation heading back to Big D. Even before those conversations take place, Lamb and the Chargers would have to agree to an extension.

Lamb, 25, is said to be seeking a deal worth at least $32 million per season. This would make him the second highest-paid receiver in the game behind the $34 million Justin Jefferson is earning in his new deal with the Minnesota Vikings .

Those are the logistics. Without a doubt, Lamb would be an absolute game changer for Justin Herbert and the Chargers.

Lamb’s situation is something the Chargers should certainly be monitoring. The same thing can be said about Aiyuk.

Los Angeles committed to Herbert on a five-year, $262.5 million a year ago this month. Regardless of the cost, it makes absolutely no sense not to commit to adding a star wide receiver that would team up with him for at least the next half-decade.

Pull a Les Snead. Screw the draft picks. Get Herbert a No. 1. It should be the next evolution of the Chargers’ roster building mentality under the combo of Hortiz and Harbaugh.
