HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Union County EMA officials confirm the body of 47-year-old William Cowan Jr. was recovered in the Ohio River.

Officials say Cowan was with four other people Monday night when he dove in the river. Witnesses say he never resurfaced.

Sheriff Jason Thomas says multiple emergency crews conducted a search for Cowan around 7 p.m., and the body was recovered today around 4 p.m..

The sheriff says Cowan was recovered near a boat dock on KY-871 in an area he calls the “Old Hamilton Mine Loadout” near Shawnee bridge.

The Sheriff believes this to be “nothing more than a terrible accident.”

This is currently under investigation and we will update as more information becomes available.
