MASON — A Genesee County man was in custody on Tuesday following a series of police road pursuits in Ingham and Livingston counties and a home invasion and auto theft in Leroy Township, officials said.

The suspect, 60, was arrested by Michigan State Police and the Livingston County Sheriff's Office after crashing into another vehicle east of Howell, the Ingham County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The man was taken to "a Lansing area hospital" for evaluation before being lodged at the Ingham County Jail, the release said.

Ingham County dispatchers received the first of several calls about a recklesss driver in a Ford Crown Victoria headed west toward Lansing on Interstate 96 near the Ingham/Livingston county line shortly before noon, officials said.

Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth later spotted the vehicle traveling north on U.S. 127 near Kipp Road, and deputies tried to stop the driver before terminating the pursuit on eastbound I-96 near Williamston Road.

The same driver and vehicle were later spotted at I-96 and M-52, and the driver once again refused to stop.

About 1:30 p.m., police learned that a man had forced his way into a home in the area of M-52 and Milner Road north of Stockbridge, robbed a woman of her keys and drove off in her pickup truck.

Deputies tried to stop the driver in the stolen truck before terminating the pursuit in the Webberville area. The truck later was seen again in Webberville, and police followed it into Livingston County, where another traffic stop was attempted in the Fowlerville area, officials said.

Livingston County authorities deployed stop sticks, puncturing two of the truck's tires before it crashed and stopped. The crash resulted in minor injuries.

"Sheriff Wriggelsworth is grateful that the home invasion and robbery victim was not physically harmed," the news release said. "He also applauds another example of interagency cooperation, successfully taking a dangerous criminal off the street and this incident to a successful conclusion."
