Eight people have been arrested on drug charges stemming from an undercover investigation at a convenience store in Hastings, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

We will get the first week of July off to a very soggy start as a front stalls in the area, bringing a risk for numerous showers and thunderstorms on Monday evening (more on that shortly). While rain chances back off a little bit Tuesday and Wednesday as the front meanders and weakens, we will get at least a brief break from the advisory-level heat that punctuated the end of June. Rain will keep highs to the upper 80s on Monday, while onshore flow Tuesday helps to keep highs tamped down to the mid-80s. Warming begins again Wednesday, though, with upper 80s yielding to mid-90s on the Fourth of July. We’re in the upper 90s for Friday and the weekend with standard afternoon and evening shower and thunderstorm chances expected.

The first Excessive Heat Watches & Heat Advisories have been posted as a heatwave gets underway in parts of the Northeast & Northern Mid Atlantic states as well as the Ohio Valley. Additional watches, warnings, and advisories are likely going up in the coming days as a strong ridge of high pressure aloft builds into the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states later this week. The hottest temperatures will begin Wednesday coupled with very high humidity. Heat indices are forecast to reach 100-105 range later this week. The heatwave is likely to last at least 6 days beginning Tuesday.

Health officials have suspended the license of Pierce County massage therapist Lukela Los Banos, the Washington Department of Health reported on Thursday. Los Banos allegedly placed suction cups on the back of a patient's legs on Sep. 23, 2023, and left the cups on their skin for around 40 minutes, the DOH reports. He allegedly tightened the cups three times, injuring the patient’s skin, according to the department.
