Multi-county pursuit across central Ohio ends in arrest

DELAWARE, Ohio ( WCMH ) — A vehicle chase that crossed multiple central Ohio counties resulted in a Florida man being arrested Tuesday.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), the chase began when an alert was issued for a reportedly stolen 2024 Toyota RAV4 last seen driving on State Route 95 in Richland County. OSHP said the car was involved in other pursuits in other jurisdictions.

Just after the alert was sent, a trooper with the OSHP Mt. Gilead post saw the RAV4 driving south on SR-95 in Knox County. The trooper tried to perform a traffic stop, but the RAV4 continued driving, the OSHP said. The trooper called off the pursuit because of reckless driving and risk to the public when the RAV4 headed toward Mt. Vernon.

An OSHP helicopter picked up the pursuit, finding the RAV4 driving on Interstate 71 from Morrow County into Delaware and Franklin counties. With the helicopter keeping tabs on the car, troopers followed behind but did not have their sirens activated.

OSHP said the RAV4 then exited I-71 onto Interstate 270 westbound then onto State Route 315, where troopers tried to use stop sticks near the Ackerman Road exit. However, the RAV4 continued driving south on SR-315 before exiting onto Interstate 670 West. OSHP said the RAV4 then continued south back to I-71 South.

The OSHP helicopter tracked the RAV4 on I-71 into Greene County with the troopers still following the car at a distance. The RAV4 then swerved off the left side of the road while trying to avoid another set of stop sticks and lost control, swerving back into the southbound lanes before hitting the back of a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado. The RAV4 then drove off the right side of the road before stopping.

Tevin Marion, 29, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, was taken into custody. He is charged in Clinton County with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony, as well as driving without a license, not wearing a seatbelt, and failure to control the vehicle, all misdemeanors. Marion was also charged in Knox County with felony failure to comply. He is being held in Clinton County Jail.

Marion is also facing other charges from other jurisdictions involved in Tuesday’s pursuit as well; he is also wanted on a felony warrant.

His passenger, a 38-year-old Ft. Lauderdale man, was also apprehended. No charges for the man are listed.
